My son went for a abdominal ultrasound due to back to stomach pain. All was normal except for small stone in his gallbladder. However test showed a slightly prominent renal pelves and calices . NO DEFINITE HYDRONEPHROSIS PRESENT. How can his renal pelvis and calices be swollen if there is no hydronephrosis?? Also does calices mean kidney stones. Thank you for any info.

Hi

How is your son doing?
Did the doctor mention a possible obstruction? If I'm not mistaken the calices is part of the renal pelvis, if your son had a kidney stone prior to the scan it could have been blocking his kidney from draining causing it to stretch.
My kidneys are abnormal in shape due to numerous stones obstructing the kidneys and from scarring due to kidney disease.

Please feel free to pm me anytime.
I hope your son is doing ok. I did reply to your other post also.

Take Care Smile
