Hey, everyone. I'm on my first week of my
new pack of pills. I always take the
pills right before I go to bed, and for
the past 2 nights, I have dry swallowed
the pill right before falling asleep. I
never thought about it, but could dry
swallowing possibly make pills less
effective? As in, if it doesn't make it
to your stomach as quickly? My boyfriend
and I are spending the entire weekend
together (something we never have a chance
to do) and he doesn't want to use condoms
like we usually do. Am I taking a risk?

Dry swallowing your pills doesn't affect
the pills' effectiveness at all.
Just like taking them with a gallon of
water won't matter either.
As long as you are taking them at the same
time, it doesn't matter.
Even if you chewed them and swallowed
them, you'd be ok.

Actually, chewing is very bad. Chewing it
increases the surface area and thus you
absorb a huge dose all at once, but it
peters out for the rest of the day and you
are no longer protected. You should never
chew any kind of pill - no matter what
kind it is - unless the prescription says
this is okay. If you want to chew your
pill you should get on a specific kind of
birth control that is designed to be
chewed.
