Q: Doc says I'm pregnant

I went to a doctor today because of a UTI. They took a urine sample and I waited in the room for awhile. When the doctor walks into the room the first thing he says is, "Were you trying to get pregnant?" That kind of took me as a shock and then he tells me that I'm pregnant and tells me that I indeed have a UTI and gives me a prescription for an antibiotic and then tells me to be careful taking it because it might harm my baby. I am completely confused. Is there anyway that he did a pregnancy test and didn't tell me? I know I should have asked but I was too in shock and upset and got out of there asap.

I know that I may very well be pregnant. I was on birth control for a year and a half and quit in December due to the side effects. My last withdrawal period from the pill was from December 24-27. I then had unprotected sex (pull-out "method") on January 2-3 and January 12. I do not know what my cycles are like since I haven't had one off of the pill yet.

My question is: Isn't it way too early to get an accurate result on a pregnancy test?

Obviously it isn't too early Very Happy

I think whenever you give a urine sample at the doctors office, they will almost always test for pregnancy. They do this because they can't prescribe certain medications for pregnant women.

yeah, I would say you are pregnant...if the test came up positive then you are. Did the doctor tell you anything else like when to come back or did your doc give you names and numbers of an ob/gyn? He should have done more for you

Usually they will start you right away on prenatal vitamins. What is up with that doc?

I have no idea. I'm in college so I had to go to a walk in clinic here instead of my regular doctor. I took a test this morning and it was negative.

As soon as he told me that he left and a nurse gave me a prescription and said i could leave.

I guess I'll just wait for my period and test again.

SOMETHING isnt right
because a dr wouldnt tell you as positive and then you get a negative? there arent any false positive tests.

Confused

They didn't discuss with you your options? Hook you up with prenatal vitamins and an OB's number?

Please visit the clinic again and get another pregnancy test. The first sounds confusing!

Good luck. How is your UTI feeling? Better I hope!
