About 3 years ago I got glandular fever. I was hospitalised first with a really bad all over rash and feeling run down. The hospital were baffled what was wrong with me so did a blood test.

After the test they came back and said that I had Glandular fever and the rash and illness and been brought on by the penicillin that my doctor had give me for the fever and run downness i was feeling. Apparently penicillin is really bad to give people when they have glandular fever.

I have now got a swollen gland for about 6 months in my groin which the doctor says is a swollen gland and should go down on its own. I am due back for my 3 month review next week.

Now I am worried about HIV after seeing a leaflet yesterday about the symptoms of HIV. I am going for a test this week, but was hoping someone could answer me a few questions.

When they tested for GF would they off done an HIV test as well???

I have no other symptoms and feel well and i have only slept with 1 women in the last 2 1/2 years. I did have an HIV test about 6 years ago and have slept with about 10 women in total since.

I have never taken drugs or slept with men.

What are the chances of it being HIV???

I have been in the exact same situation, Had GF 2 years ago.

As far I know they dont test you for GF & HIV at the same time, unless the Dr has requested it.

I have/had no symptoms but i have constan fever, which the DR said was due to the GF still being in my system.

I guess its better to just get tested for HIV, I did get tested 2 years ago & it was negative, i dont have the courage to do it again.

Johnny55, it is the first time I have heard of Glandular fever. My daughter died young of a penicillin reaction and so I can relate a bit.

As Tummyrumbler has clearly stated, nobody will test you for HIV unless it is on the requisition form for the lab.

And for peace of mind, it is better to get tested for HIV.

All the best with everything - Mson
