My husband and I have been TTC for about 8 months. We recently found out through a semen analysis that my husband has an extremely low sperm count. We have an appt with a fertility specialist but it's not for 3 weeks and it's killing us not knowing if we have a chance at all! I have heard that 3-4 days of abstainance right before ovulation may help my husband build up enough sperm?? Anyone know if this is just a myth?

Hey there! I've definitely heard that sperm builds up the longer a man goes without ejaculating, but I'm not sure if it would necessarily increase the odds of conception if he's got a low sperm count.

Not to overshadow your question, but just out of curiosity, how do you go about getting a semen analysis done? Can your primary care physician do it? I'd like my fiance to have one before we officially TTC. Smile Thanks so much!

As far as your situation goes, I think you should go ahead and BD since he's likely got a whole batch saved up for ya! Good luck! Very Happy

You need to have a referral from OB/GYN, primary care doctor or a urologist so have a semen analysis. You won't likely get a referral until you've been TTC for a year without luck. My doctor went ahead and gave us a referral because I'm about to be 30 and my clock is ticking for sure. Glad we did since we discovered we have some fertility issues to deal with. I am going to be such a wreck until our appt with the specialist. Oh well . Thank a bunch for reading. Lots of baby dust for you!

Oh, okay, gotcha...we haven't actually started actively trying yet, so I'll just have to see how it goes! Smile Thanks so much for the info! Lots & lots of baby dust for you, too! Good luck!

low sperm count
80 % of sperm is made from L - arginine . This amino acid is needed in large amounts in the diet to build sperm. To also make good sperm it needs zinc and vit c these are best taken at dinner time.... it also increases sex drive, reduces blood pressure to normal and prevents heart attacks and strokes..... so be careful
