My boyfriend was having pain in his testicle so he went for a check up and they said he has varicocele. He had pain when he would lift things or even sit for too long in certain positions.

Now he's getting worried about being impotent and he doesn't want to have sex two days in a row.

Does anyone know how they treat this kind of thing? He's talking about getting surgery, is this usually successful? How often does this cause men to be impotent? Any information would really be helpful. He's too worried to ask about it himself and he's in a bit of a panic.

Did some research...
Did the doc request that he get surgery for it?

From what I read, it doesn't seem that doctors are sure if it can cause infertility or not. However, sometimes surgery can be performed to attempt to fix infertility problems.

Here's a webmd article that discusses the treatments: http://www.webmd.com/infertility-and-repro duction/varicocele-repair-for-infertility

It also says that if it is small, or not causing any problems, they usually just leave it alone. It's a varicose vein, just like some women get in their legs, and isn't really treated unless it's causing problems.

Since he's experiencing pain, he should talk to his doctor.

Here's another site that gives a little more information.

Yeah, I've looked it up right when he told me the doctor said he had it, but I was wondering more if anyone around here has had something like it before and how everything went if they had surgery.

The doctor told him if the pain didn't go away then he would need surgery, so all that's left is scheduling the surgery but he has been putting it off for awhile due to some other things that have been going on.

I'm not trying to get preg or anything, I just wanted to make sure that delaying this isn't going to cause any more long term side effects either.

From what I read, it doesn't necessarily cause infertility, and I don't think that holding off on it would cause infertility either. They simply said that men who were infertile were more likely to have varicocele.

BUt hopefully someone replys who has been through it!
