I'm trying to search for some low cost or free prenatal classes in my county, but I can't find any. Who here took classes? Did they help?

i had parenting classes from the pregnancy center that did my pregnancy test, but that wasnt real prenatal classes, they just told you what to expect during pregnancy labor/delivery and then afterwards, i liked them more for the friendships and adult interaction

i didnt take lamase or anything like that though, i dont think they are nessesary, if you dont have an epi your body will know what to do, if you do have an epi your doc/nurse will tell you what to do, just learn how to manage pain and your all good (at least thats my point of veiw)

I took them with my second pregnancy. I did an extra class with a breast feeding coach and got my class for free. You might ask your Dr. or the ladies at WIC about low cost classes.

The only one I took was a class on epidurals. It was mandatory; if you didn't take it then an epidural would not be an option for you during L&D. The hospital should offer prenatal/parenting classes.

Shocked that's ridiculous that they made you do that! I didn't take any class and I was still able to get my epi! I just had to listen while the doctor explained the risks and signed a paper saying I understood.

Katie, I didn't take any classes. Half of what you learned in class will probably go right out of your head anyway. But they're good for learning what your body is going to go through and what you might and WILL experience, so you're not caught 100% offguard.

If you read a book like What To Expect or some pregnancy sites, or just ask us about our labor experiences, you should get the general idea... for free!

Your doctor should be able to point you in the direction of classes. I assume you are going to deliver at EMMC, so maybe call there and they could help too.

Oops! I meant it'll probably go out of your head when you're in labor. The way I said it originally makes it sound mean. Laughing

Yeah, I just found a class at EMMC. It's $88.00 for the 6 week class (this includes breastfeeding and infant care. It said on the website that most insurances cover this so I emailed the lady that runs it and asked if MaineCare covers it, and when the classes start. Smile
