I donated a kidney to someone about two years ago...My new job may relocate me to a hot, desert environment, where living conditions are spartan, to say the least....

Is only having one perfect, healthy, and high functioning kidney going to pose more of a health threat to me if I become deydrated than if I had two?

I am 42, in excellent health and condition, a runner and weight lifter....Very active...No health problems at all...

What should my concerns be here?

First let me say thank you from all of us kidney patients, that was a wonderful thing you did. Smile
I have kidney problems and in time will be reduced to one kidney as one of not doing well and I have had multiple operations. My other one is also not that great but it will do for now, I am told.
You need to keep yourself hydrated and your doctor can check your kidney function when doing routine blood testing, my aunt was born with one kidney and she did great never had a problem.

I would like to say thanks too. My mother recieved a kidney transplant in june of last year, she is still recovering of course, but the family choose not to be contacted. That is understandable of course. Whenever I hear about some one being a donor, I always say thanks... without people like you my mom would probably not be here now!
