I just started Loestrin 24Fe on January 5th on the first day of my regular cycle. My period lasted it's normal length. However on Friday evening through today, I have been having light bleeding. It stopped for a few hours on Saturday but it's back again today. Is this just a side effect of starting the pill or is this something that I need to call my doctor about?

Yes, that is a side effect of starting the pill. It can last for 1-2 months until your body is adjusted to the hormone levels.

How long could this breakthrough bleeding last? I realize it could happen for the first few packs of pills? But I'm still bleeding and it's not real heavy (heavier during the day than in the evening) and just more of a nuisance than anything.

It could last for 2-3 months... The whole time or part of the time. It could come and go. There's no more concrete way of saying it.
