Causing abortions?
I've been on microgestin for about 3 months and it's okay. But I'm having issues because I'm told that it, or any BC, can cause an early stage abortion if an egg happens to become fertilized (because the lining of the uterine wall is too weak to support a fetus). We all know that BC is only 99% effective...so I'm kind of freaking out...I read that on average, BC caused about 1 abortion a year...

I think you should be fine. Don't worry about it and if you seriously cannot stand that thought of you possibly causing an abortion, think about using different non-hormonal contraception methods. Doctors will work with you to find a birth control method that is right for you.

Junel switch to Microgestin FE, tons of acne & no period!
I was on Junel FE 1/20 and it was back ordered. They switched me to Microgestin FE without even telling me! Any ways, i started talking the Microgestin and my face completely broke out. I'm talking those deep really huge zits that are impossible to get rid of. I also got tons of tiny bumps all over my forehead. As for my period, I completely skipped it all together. I obviously panicked and took a pregnancy test which was negative. My OBGYN put me on Aviane 28, which I am due to start in a couple of days. Any suggestions?

Microgestin Fe1/20
I have been on this pill for a while now... Can't remember when I went on it... This is my first brand of pill and any dealings with the pill.. I feel like I have gained so much weight, (my boyfriend says it just because I am filling out ) not noticing anything with the boobs but maybe a little and blaming weight gain?, HAIR LOSS!!! my hair used to be nice and medium thick... now its like thin and I hate it. periods are like non existant which freaks the crap out of me ( but were never regular anyway) ohh and Depression.... I can cry about anything and everything under the sun... I used to never cry... if it rains it would give me enough reason to cry... I am moody as hell... Ohh and I always have to pee... waking up 2x a night at least to pee... My boyfriend just told me to forget the pill and be happy and who I am.. even if it means no sex.

Birth Control Ban please!
I started with Loestrin 1/20 and did not ever get a period, so I switched to Microgestin 1/20 and I'm in the middle of my second month now and I have now been sick 4 times in the past 1.5 months, my boobs feel like they weigh 400 pounds and HURT, I can't eat very much because I have NO appetite, and I'm exausted all the time. I don't have the previously said crying or weight gain (instead i have lost weight) but I have been feling deppressed more often... I thought it was just stress at school, but I'm starting to think its this dumb pill. I'm only taking it to regulate my period and not to prevent pregnancy right now, so I'm deffinitly thinking about dumping this pill forever.

Microgestin caused a growth on my liver...
I stopped taking Microgestin september 10th because I either had a very light period which is unusual for me, or no period at all. I was an extreme emotional train wreck. I would cry at the smallest things, throw stuff across the room, go off on my friends for nothing. I have just been diagnosed with an adenoma (non-cancerous growth on my liver) from taking the pill which needs to be surgically removed because of it's size (5.8 centimeters). I also had a almost non existent sex drive which was very frustrating for me and my fiance. Now that I am not on the pill anymore, I actually feel somewhat normal again (aside from a growth on my liver). I would like to know if anyone has tried to file a lawsuit against Microgestin, and if so what prompted the lawsuit and how I can file one of my own.

I took this for a month and had every single side effect! Nausea, breast swelling, weight gain, depression, anxiety, lower sex drive...you name it, I had it. Although, I was on the highest dose (30) I can't decide which is worse, having these side effects...or worried about being pregnant all the time!!! I'm going to try a lower dose, and take it from there. I hope people have better luck than me!

Nervous, but good so far
I switched from Orthotricyclin to microgestrin and missed my period (had light spotting). After about 3 pregnancy tests, all negative, I called my doctor who casually told me this is normal occurance on the pill. Awesome!! Reason for my swithc, ortho made me more emotional, less sex drive, and I retained water at a higher rate. I'm a lot less emotional, my sex drive has increase, I don't feel as heavy (although I'm hungry all the time). It's only my second month, but as someone previously mentioned, all pills give us side effects and everyone is different. Just got to figure what's best for us. I'm thinking this is a good switch, especially if I get lighter periods and bigger boobs!! Woohoo

Microgestrin 1/20 --> Discontinuing
I'm a 35 y/o physically active female. I'm on a disciplined diet and a structured fitness regimen (I workout 3-5x's per week). I don't have any children nor do I plan to have any children.

I'm on my second pack of Microgestrin 1/20. I was put on Microgestrin 1/20 for my endometriosis symptoms to help me manage my mood swings and intense pain associated with my menstrual cycle. I was on Sprintec for 1.5 yrs but wanted to try to find out whether another birth control pill could eliminate all my endometriosis symptoms. My physician had me take the packs continuously to avoid having a menstrual cycle all together. I don't like this because my body seems to fight this and other than not menstruating, by body would still bloat and retain water as if it were trying to have a period and my body does this for at least 2 weeks. I feel as if would just allow myself to have a period, the process of allowing my body to rid itself of water, bloat, gas, blood, etc. would be much quicker.

I have gained 5 lbs in this short time on Microgestrin 1/20. I wouldn't really sweat it, but I had already gained 10 lbs previous to this while on Sprintec. That weight gain on Sprintec was due partially to the birth control and partially to my reduction in the amount of the intense hours I committed to working out each day (I was working out 2-3x's per day 5-6x's per week). I accepted that 10 lbs weight gain, but I can't afford to continue to gain weight at my age.

I am discontinuing Microgestrin 1/20 as of today. I also experienced an increase in breast size and tenderness while on Microgestrin 1/20. I experienced more initial nauseousness while on Sprintec.

I agree that it's a matter of finding the right birth control for you and that each birth control will affect each one of us differently. Unfortunately, there is no perfect birth control pill. It's a matter of finding the birth control pill that you can have the least amount of side effects while on it and the side effects that you can decide to live with.

Side effects from doubling up...?
I have been on this bc for about 6months give or take. Just this weekend (saturday) I forgot take one of my pills and had double up Sunday night. By Monday I felt like I was having my period, and I even started spotting. It is now Wednesday and I have taken all of pills to this point. I have been spotting and having terrible nauseating cramps since Monday morning. Has this ever happened to anyone? In my experience you only get a period of you miss TWO polls back to back. I have doubled up before on this & other bc and NEVER has this happened NEVER! The dr office says that it is a normal reaction - well not for me it isn't! And on top of it I have been having some constipation which is making the cramping much worse.

I only been on this pill for 3 days and it's making me a total basket case!!! Crying over everything, no appetite, irritable.... I already have a problem with a mood and personality disorder, but can't blame it on me being unstable because that is so not the case. It's this pill...

I had to REALLY adjust to this pill. I take them continuously [no week break] by choice which means no period. It caused me to be a little more moody and feel almost like I was going insane at times but it DOES pass. It will take about 3 months but bear with it and you won't even notice you're even on any extra medication!

microgestin
goodness, all of these symptoms and comlaints are exactly what's happeneing to me.. i started a super heavy period in the middle of the pack without missing a pill. and i have horrid cramps. also my boobs have grown a cup size(which isn't fun for an already D and now a DD braa size) my boobs are super tender and hurt. i get occasonally leg muscle cramps. the only reason i dont have bouts of depression, i assume is because i am already prescribed to an axiety/depression medicine. goodluck with your experience with this pill but i do not care for it and plan to switch ASAP

I have been taking Microgestin 1/20 for 2 months, and the 2 months before that I was taking Loestrin 1/20. On the Loestrin I had insane hot flashes. When I ran out of samples from the doctor's office and discovered that my insurance wouldn't pay for Loestrin, I was prescribed Microgestin. In the two months on Microgestin my depressing and anxiety are through the roof to the point where I have been prescribed a different medication to help with the anxiety. I am already on an anti-depressant and my doctor is considering increasing my dosage after I have been on the same dose for 2 years. In additions to no periods at all since I started the birth control pills, my triglycerides are triple what the normal level is. Thankfully, I haven't had breast pain, but have experienced a weight gain of 5 lbs since starting the Microgestin. What is frustrating is that I don't need the birth control pills for actual birth control. They were prescribed to reduce PCOS (Poly-Systic Ovarian Syndrome) symptoms. I have an appointment with the OB/GYN who prescribed the birth control pills on the 16th and hope that I can stop taking them, because I feel like the pills have made things worse, not better. Also, for those experiencing depression, mood swings, or missed periods, according to the paperwork with the Microgestin those are severe reactions to the pill that require medical attention.

i'm glad to have found this forum. I am freaking out because i have cramps and my boobs are sore but no bleeding. it seems this is normal and i sure hope it is. this would be my first missed period after the 3rd month of taking this particular pill. on any other pill i've ever been on i've NEVER skipped a period so it's freaky if you're not used to it. i seem to have lost weight and sometimes loss of appetite but not sure if it's from the pill. a bit sensitive when pms-ing but other than that, it's all good. i switched because the previous pill i was on caused big time spotting in between periods. thanks for all the info.

I don't know if my ex and I are pregnant
Hi there. My ex-girlfriend and I are freaking out because we had unprotected sex a month after she started this and then ran out a few days before the unprotected sex. Her "My Days" app predicted her ovulation dates to be a whole 2 weeks before the sex and for her period to start the day after the sex. It has now been almost 2 weeks since the sex and still no period, there has been light pink spotting though. I was wondering if this is "implantation bleeding" or if it's common for this pill to cause the light bleeding and (From reading) I can tell she may be missing her period due to the pill, but could she be pregnant?

helpppp
im also on microgestin, ive been on the pill for almost 6 months now and ive been feeling so depressed, honestly the worst mood swings ever. One minute im in a great mood then a little while later im like completely doubting my relationship with my boyfriend borderline breaking up with him and crying all of a sudden for no freaking reason! loll im really so depressed to the point that i was wondering what the heck was wrong with me - so ofcourse i googled symptoms and i think that the BC could be it. Microgestin also has made me so nauseas if i dont eat anything or eat very little before bed- to the point where i would wake up early in the morning running to the bathroom. Any other suggestions for BC to take that wont make me have these same symptoms??

Reading everyone's comments on this is really helpful.
This is my first time taking birth control. Tomorrow is my first week without the pills in the first month (I have the 21 pill pack). I have cried ALL the time and I'm a very happy person, but if I was alone and was watching Grey's Anatomy or was just laying in bed I'd start crying ! It was ridiculous. But I've gone at least 3 days without crying maybe 4 including today, so perhaps my body is used to it.

The other effect which I believe is normal is I was spotting for about a week or 2. I believe it has something to do with the uterus walls ?

My boobs have gotten bigger, a little sore but not much. I was barely a B cup so I'm pretty happy haha. I haven't noticed a weight gain. I gain and lose 5 pounds all the time, so that's normal for me.

Good luck ladies, be safe.

I'm just finishing up my first month on this pill. I noticed in the first few weeks i was a little more emotional than usual. I've cried two times this month which is normally a once in a blue moon occurrence for me and I'm talking about sobbing crying. In addition about a week before I started the brown pills I got really bad stomach pains and cramps, which after talking to my friends I attributed to the pill. I started my period yesterday, which before the pill I received every three months and I have bad cramps that I didn't receive before. I notice that I am a bit more tired than usual but I will give the pill 3 months before trying a new one to see if this is just my body adjusting to the pill. Overall I have not noticed any weight gain or crazy emotions and maybe the tiniest increase in acne.

Having nausea, migrane like headache and spotting. Normal?
My daughter just started taking Microgestin FE 1/20 three weeks ago. She's having headaches, spotting and nausea now. She is 15 and I am worried. These are horrible side effects I am reading here. I was on BC for years and never had any side effects. Should we wait it out another month? I am seeing it as "normal" on these pills.
