Q: Zoloft for stress

Anyone on Zoloft that would care to give me some tips? My doctor just prescribed it to me for stress. The pharmacist told me it was more for depression than for stress, but I'm hoping it will work. I know I've read that all these stress/anxiety/depression meds all work differently on different people, but Effexor XR made me really jittery so I thought I'd ask for some advice.
Thanks! Confused

the girlfriend,
Thanks for the info. How do your meds seem to be working? And does anyone know anything about that Serotonin Syndrome. How likely is that to happen? I guess I need to just chill out- I obviously worry too much. Although, I have read some pretty horrible things about people being on any of these kind of meds.
Thanks again!

I took Zoloft for 5 year's and they really worked for me. .My daughter is on them now. she takes 100 mg. a day. I have seen a huge difference in her. Personally for me and my daughter it helps with stress, depression, and anxiety. there are pro. and cons with every kind, but this one seems to help the most for us.

kymm,
Thank you for the info. That does make me feel a little better. I'm really hoping for a change. I just get really stressed out. We are a military family and this is my husband's third deployment. I feel like I've always dealt with the stress well. . . all by myself, but I'm turning 33 next month and I feel like I'm a lot older than that! I think what I thought was "handling stress on my own" has made my body pay for it. I feel really run down and irritated all the time. I just want to be able to relax and enjoy life. Does anyone feel the same way?

yes i felt ran down all the time, no energy, couldnt eat ,sleep, cried alot over nothing. i felt like i was at the end of my rope. i started the med's. now it takes about 14 days to really get into your system. i tried to deal with my problems on my own and ended up worse. the med. for me calmed me down, made me to where i could make decisions better, and i became a happier person and one that my kids could live with.... i will keep you and your husband in my prayers whlie he is away...God Bless him and Keep him safe while he is away.

im on welbutrin and i HATE it. the side effects are horrible. every person ive ever talked tot hats been on it hates it. its ruining me.
the xanex seems to be working. but it puts you in this zombie state. you get really tired and it makes you feel weak.xanex is a highl addictive drug also. which is not a good thing

amny people i know have been on lexapro and its changed thier life. thats my nextstep. in a week if this med doesnt start to work and i keep getting these orrible side effects then im going to switch because lexapro is also a depression med and is used for anxiety as well Very Happy

I tried zoloft but I went crazy on it. My friend took lexapro but it made hem feel terribel and also killed his sex drive. He never wanted to have sex with is girlfriend anymore, and they lived togather. They almost broke up, cause she thought maybe there was somebody else out there and theat was why. I heard really good things about cymbalta its supposed to help treat physicle pain with depression. I donn't know, I know this chichk who committed suicide while she was takeing it, though. She was a quarraplegeic who could use one arem. I don't knwo how she committed suicide but it was really sad cause seh was a really nice person and had worked so hard to rehab after herin jury and stuff but I think it all just got to be too much for her cause then she broke her leg and since she couldn;t feel it it got gang green and had to be amputaited.

I feel there are better ways to fighting stress and depression other than drugs. It may be a more difficult route, but I've seen a trend in media hyped drugs resulting in negative side effects. But I don't put down anyone that takes zoloft, I'm just suggesting that every action has a reaction and shortcuts in life usually don't turn up positive results.

I have taken zoloft for 13 years.

I started when I was 13, due to depression. Depression and anxiety/mental illness runs in my family, and I guess it decided to pick 'me'..if you will...

I LOVE ZOLOFT. It is the only SSRI drug that works for me, and I have tried a few others in the past to try and save money. My insurance only covered a percentage of zoloft for awhile, and other drugs were cheaper but they did not work.

I have had ZERO problems with zoloft, and I will continue to take it indefinitely.
