I made some steak for dinner the other night which had been siting in the fridge for about 4 days. It was a little brown but still red inside and on the bottom. I have cooked steak in this condition before without any problems. The grocery store I purchased it from is questionable though.

Within 30 minutes of eating the steak I had the urge to use the bathroom and had a very explosive case of diarrhea. Nausea, fever and tiredness quickly followed. Almost every hour I had to use the toilet again. About the third time I noticed that the diarrhea was almost 100% clear liquid. No blood or pain was involved - it actually felt kind of good to release the pressure in my bowls. Again, this occurred almost every hour.

About 6 hours in to the ordeal, (3 am!) the nausea allowed my to vomit ALL of my diner and probably everything else in my stomach. After that I began having cold sweats and felt that the sickness was going to pass (no pun intended!). I continued to visit the toilet about once every three hours now and continued to be nauseous and tired with cold sweats.

Today I feel much better but I still feel that my bowls are playing tricks on me and I'm afraid to eat anything. I did have some plain donuts and some tea for breakfast and I feel ok. Still very cold and sweating alot as I sit at work.

What I'm having trouble figuring out is what kind of food poisoning I have and if I should be worried about it as well as when I should expect to be feeling back to 100%.

This is my first post in any kind of medical forum so I hope I found a good one!

TIA!
Anthony

I'm not sure if eating an "off" steak could trigger such a response so quickly, unless bacteria was present and the steak wasn't cooked enough. I've had cases of dysentry that came on like lightning, so I can empathize.

Can you submit a stool sample for examination? This is the only way to identify the cause of the diarrhea or intestinal infection. You might need a script from your GP but can then go directly to a medical diagnostic lab. I did this an had my results within a coupld days.
