Q: I Don't Know What to Do....

Last night I got a call from Cheyenne's babysitter. She says that she is not going to be able to watch Cheyenne for me anymore; effective immediately. I kind of seen this coming, because she has needed more and more time off lately.
Then, I get up this morning to get ready for work and I had 2 messages from her. One saying that she would continue to keep Cheyenne for me until I found someone else to watch her. Then about an hour later she left another one saying that she would go ahead and continue to watch her full time. So within a few hours I went from having no sitter back to having a full time sitter. WTH?????
I'm just not sure what to do. I don't really want to put Cheyenne in daycare, nor can we afford it. But, the current sitter is starting to become very unreliable. She always calls at the last minutes to let me know she can't watch Cheyenne; it is very difficult to come up with a sitter at the last minute. Luckily, my grandma was able to keep her today. I had to bring her to work with me yesterday.

What would you girls do if you were in this situation?

where did you find your current babysitter? could you keep her for now and start looking for a replacement? maybe don't let her know you are looking just yet because that might make her more likely to bail on you. just let her know you really need her to be reliable right now and start looking for a replacement. maybe ask around to people you know so you can get a reference. hope you can figure something out.

i would keep her with this sitter as long as i could until i found another one, but look for one thats more reliable

she sounds like shes got her head up her you know what and shes stuck there in the dark....i dont know, but she needs to make up her mind, if she cant be a full time babysitter (if she has to call at the last minute and cancel all the time) then maybe she shouldnt be a sitter and find another job

good luck

My current sitter is a friend of mine's sister. She's in her 40's, so I figured she would be responsible and I wouldn't have any kind of trouble like this. I have a friend that I went to high school with that owns and operates her own daycare, so I may go and talk to her and see if she will cut me a deal of some kind. I'm definitely on the lookout for a new sitter though.

I would find a new sitter ASAP. That kind of behavior indicates a person who is not very consistent, and I would be nervous to have such a person watching my children.

I work for the National Forest in southern Illinois. They don't mind me bringing her into the office for a day, as long as I don't make a habit of it.
I've have known this person for years and have never known her to be like this. I just talked to her and she said she was having an issue with her foot swelling up and was afraid that it may interfere with caring for Cheyenne. I like her watching Cheyenne because she is only about 5 minutes from my office, so if I had to run over there for something I could very easily.
I am going to look for a backup and if this becomes a consistent problem, I will change sitters. Cheyenne is just SOOOO comfortable with them, I hate to take her someplace new.

Thanks for your responses ladies. I really appreciate it.
