Gential herpes outbreak and HIV infection Posted: 01-11-08 07:03am
Ive tried other websites and I guess they
chose not to answer. My question is I had
an outbreak of genital herpes in
august2005, the unprotected encounter was
around feb14 and towards the end of the
month same person. I know that gh is an
opportunistic infection of hiv. Ive not
had an outbreak in 3yrs, I tested for hiv
at the same time I tested positive gh in
august. So would an oral test be accurate
given the time period for my body to
produce antibodies. plz answer

If the genital herpes outbreak was due to
an HIV-infection, the HIV-test would have
been positive. Yes, the oral test would
have been accurate given the amount of
time between testing and the risky
unprotected encounter in February.
Because the HIV-test was negative, the
herpes outbreak can not be due to HIV.
Genital herpes outbreaks occur whenever
there is a drop in immunity in the body.
And HIV-infection is only one of the many
possible causes for immunity drop.
