severe anxiety caused by Metoprol or Prevacid ? Posted: 01-10-08 13:58pm
I was originally put on Metoprolol 25 mg
per day due to a high heart rate & throat
tightness after taking thyroid medicine
for three days and a subsequent emergency
room visit. Xanax was then added, as well
as Prevacid. (Xanax 3 x per day at 0.25
mg & Prevacid Solutab 30 mg per day)
I started to feel better and had halved my
dose of Metoprolol to 12.5 mg per day at
night while still on the other two meds
above.
My monthly cycle started and so did the
symptoms again, this time worse. The
heart rate increased, terrible anxiety
accompanied, vomiting,
strange dreams, etc. I ended up in the
Emergency Room a second time two weekends
ago. They could only rehydrate me and
give me something for nausea that did not
work. This resulted in me having to double
the Metoprolol and increase the Xanax to
0.5 mg three times per
day to get through the day.
I have now reduced the Xanax to 0.25 mg
twice per day and 0.5 at bedtime. I have
also reduced the Metoprolol again to
12.5 mg at night. The Prevacid remains
the same.
THAT SAID.....I have been experiencing
TERRIBLE anxiety. It starts when I wake
up (if I am able to sleep) AND continues
all day. It gets worse at night before I
take my full Xanax. My throat gets tight
sometimes, I have
trouble eating, I do not want to be alone,
I am uncomfortable in my own skin, my
heart rate is high, I get very nauseated,
etc. I experience some releif when I take
the Xanax, but the few hours between when
they wear off and I am due to take them
again are HELL. I am also concerned about
addiction to Xanax.
I started reading information that people
posted on askpatient.com today regarding
side effects they experienced with
Metoprolol & Prevacid. The occurences of
Metoprolol seem a bit higher but they both
seem to correlate to my symptoms.
SO...I am wondering if anyone has had
similar experiences. Could the medicines
be causing my severe anxiety? Any insight
you can give me would be GREATLY
appreciated.
