I got my first shot2 months ago. I have
yet to have any bleeding of any kind.
Should I take a prego test? I also have
put on 6-7 lbs. is that normal and if so
will it happen with every shot?
Thanks!

I was on the depo shot for 4 years and I
never had a period and I never got
pregnant. I also gained about 10 pounds.
The missed period and weight are normal
side effects of the shot, sorry to say.
I think I had one period after my 1st shot
but then they stopped completly. I wouldnt
be too worried about pregnancy, but you
could take a test to ease your mind.

I never got my period when I had an iud so
I took pregnancy tests at that time of the
month just to make myself feel better.
Of course, I was never pregnant, but I
just needed reassurance.

You might not get any bleeding, and that's
okay.

You most likely not have a period and yes
gaining weight is common. Many people gain
quite a bit. Honestly I don't know how
much I gained but now that I've been off
for a couple years I am losing alot. So
far I've lost about 25 lbs in the past
year. And no I didn't diet. I have started
dieting just lately.

I haven't gained any, just to show that it
doesn't happen to EVERYONE! 5-15 lbs a
year is normal gain on Depo.

I didn't gain anything yet, luckily. But,
I've only been on Depo for going on four
months now.
I have quick question for you guys - and I
apologize if it's unrelated. But, Depo IS
effective immediately, isn't it? I've only
just had my second shot, and I have had
sex (without a condom), so I'm a bit
worried.
Am I covered, with just the shot, at this
point?

The very first shot is only effective
immediately if you get it during your
period. Otherwise, no. It is like every
other kind of hormonal birth control: it
takes one week to be effective.
Every OTHER shot after that is effective
immediately as long as it's taken on time.

Yeah. I got it in the first five days of
my period, which is when the doctor said
to come in. But, then the nurse giving me
the shot told me to wait until my second
shot to have unprotected sex. She said it
would take "a while to get in my system."
And then, I went in for my second shot,
and the same nurse told me I should
probably wait again, until my third shot,
to have sex. She didn't even give me time
to question it, she gave me the shot, said
that, and left.
I was all dumbfounded, like - say what?
What kind of birth control takes six
months to start working? I went to the
official site for the drug, and they said
it was effective immediately, but that
dumb nurse has me so paranoid!

The nurse doens't sound like she knows
what she's talking about. Like Eri sais
your protected right away (since you got
it during your period)
Yeah I know not everyone gains weight. I'm
not even sure if I gained because of the
shot or because I was nursing. I have
heard of people who lost weight on the
shot. Everyones body is different!

My best friend got pregnant on the depo
shot.
Just be careful.
Take a test if you are worried.

My friend took her daughter who is 15yrs
to get the depo shot in October 2007. She
got her period for 2 days. She never went
back to get another shot but she has not
gotten her period. She has taken 2
pregnacy test from walgreens and they are
negative. Is this normal? How long should
she be without a period if she had not had
a shot since October? Please anyone help
us !!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes depo just makes your period go
away. As long as she's getting her shots
on time, she should be fine. Periods get
unpredictable with depo.

Relax.
I also got my shot in October. I also did
not get the next one in December. I also
do not have a period yet!!!
YES, this is completely normal. She could
be without a period to up for a YEAR.
*NOTE* This does NOT mean that she is
protected from pregnancy. If she is having
sex, she needs to be using another form of
birth control. She can get on the pills or
any other kind of birth control, it's ok.
They may even stimulate her period.

Been on Depo since November..Ive never had
any problems w/ it but Im switching to
Implanon which is effective for 3 years.
Better than every 3 months. Works
immediatly and doesnt cause loss of bone
density like Depo does. Cheers
