Im currently on antibiotics, but taking my sugar pills at the time.. I will have about 5 days left of medicine when I get back onto the hormone pills.. How long after my last antibiotic do I have to wait to be protected by my bc again?

I would probably wait a couple of days after your last pill just to be safe. Just to make sure all of the antibiotic is out of your system and your pill is effective again. But if you find out differently please let me know. I have never even thought of that before! Embarassed

I was recently sick and put on antibiotics and specifically asked my doctor that. She said that I would need to use back up as long as I was taking the antibiotics but would be fine as soon as I finished them.

Alright thanks for the info. I have another question now.. Haha.. Is it alright to forget one of your sugar pills completely? I never took my last one last night, and am going to open a new package and start it tonight.. I gather this won't mess me up or anything, but I was jw if all during the sugar pill week if it's even necessary to take them..?

Yeah you don't have to take the sugar pills. I was supposed to take my last one yesterday morning but I just skipped it. As long as you take the active ones regularly when you are supposed to you can skip the sugar pills. They just help you stay in the habit of taking a pill every day but otherwise don't do anything to your system.

Since antibiotics can affect the effectiveness of bc, I wouldn't guarantee that you're protected by the bc again until the next month. You're either going to ovulate or your not, so if antibiotics can decrease the effectiveness.. You might ovulate.
