After weeks of waiting, I finally had my first appointment with a pulmonologist concerning my asthma. I guess I goofed up, because I used my nebulizer meds before we left for the clinic. So when they ran the spirometry tests on me, they all came up perfectly normal.
So when the pulmonologist saw the spirometry results, and listened to my chest, he asked me if I really had asthma and had I ever been tested for asthma. I was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 10, and I have had at least 10 other doctors, including ER physicians and allergists, all confirm that I have asthma. I told the pulmonologist that I had used my meds before my appointment, but it didn't seem to matter. He said I should cut back my nebulizer treatments to 2x a week and see what happens. Guys, I use that nebulizer three times a day, and it has been a lifesaver. Before I got the nebulizer and the Duoneb, I was a wheezing, coughing, short of breath mess. Sometimes it's hard to go the whole 6-8 hours between treatments because I start coughing and having chest tightness and shortness of breath. I usually can get the treatment started before the wheezing kicks in.
Did I just see a particularly lackadaisical (sp?) pulmonologist? I am seeing an allergist/immunologist/asthma doctor locally. Perhaps this is enough and I don't need to see a pulmonologist?
