Has anyone ever been diagnosed with costochondritis? I have intermittent sharp jabbing pains, usually in my left side under the rib cage. However, i also have some general abdominal pain that moves around, still usually in the left side, but sometimes much lower than the ribs. Movement seems to trigger it. I went to a GI specialist twice, and he didn't think it was serious, because of my symptoms. However, he gave me a chest x-ray to rule out pleurisy, and it came back fine.

Anyway, if costochondritis is actually what i have, how long can this possibly last? It's been over 1 month now, with consistent daily pain or discomfort.

Costochondritis
A friend of mine (male 62) was diagnosed with this 3 or 4 months ago after severe chest pains and he was suspected of having a heart attack. When it became worse he was sent to the hospital for a treadmill test. This showed a "blip" and he was told last week that he was wrongly diagnosed by the GP and it's actually angina!

Part of his problem is that he loves to walk and found this very painful after a while. He didn't knlow whether to carry on his walk or go back to the car. The Consultant told him he'd done the right thing by stopping his walk.

Hope this helps

Costocondritis
My friend was then diagnosed with acute angina and had to fly to London and attend St. George's Hospital. 5 days ago he had an angiogram then angioplasty where they inserted 5 stents. He is much relieved and we're hoping that this has done the trick. The other thing I didn't mention originally is that his blood pressure was ridiculously high for many months and even when the Doctor gave him tablets it remained frighteningly high.

This may be of no help to you at all but one never knows... Good luck.
