Q: I Told My Dad That I Am Pregnant.

Woe nearly all of my family knows that I am expecting.I told my mom as soon as I found out but I have waited to tell my dad. I am 21 years old and I have been out of the house for a year and I have been working since I was 14, but I still feel like I will get into trouble with my dad. I was so scared of what he would say, but he was ok with it. He was shocked but he reacted completely different that I thought he would. I am so relieved now. I was dreading the moment I told him. I feel like I am always disappointing my father, so I didnt want to do that again.

A weight is definitley off my shoulders.

So here is the update. I have not gone to a doctor yet. My cramps have nearly gone away. Not once did I bleed or spot. So we are going to wait at least 3 more weeks to go to the doctor. At least by then I will be about 2 months along. If I go now they cant do anything and we wont be able to see the baby cause hes too small. So I will get my first ultrasound pictures in a couple of weeks. I cannot wait to see our babys heartbeat.

I am sooooo excited and happy.

I'm glad you finally tolf your dad!! I think, no matter what, it's hard for a daughter to tell her dad. There's always that thought that he'll be disappointed! You ARE his lil girl, ya know? LOL!

As far as the Dr, you should call and see if they'll take you. Even though you won't be able to see the baby on an ultrasound, they can still do a test to confirm the pregnancy, and you can get your blood work out of the way!!!

Especially if you've had cramping, you should at LEAST call the Dr!!

Good luck and I can't wait to watch your belly grow!!

It was very hard with my dad. I am his only child that he gets to see. He has a son thats 25 but he hasnt seen my dad since he was 3 and my brother still doesnt want to see him. I am his only daughter too.

This is so joyous and thanks for your words of excitement and encouragment. i cant wait to see my belly grow either. I remember seeing you grow and it has been miraculous!

You SHOULD see your ob/gyn. As they're going to need the paperwork anyways.

I'd just call and see what they say. They might want you to come in. All Dr's offices are different.

Some WON'T see you until you're about 9 weeks, and some don't have a set time to see you!

I'm my dad's ONLY child, period. Thankfully he took the news of both pregnancies very well as he LOVES my husband! The only sad thing is, he's only met my daughter once. He lives in Michigan (he moved there After Hurrican Katrina), and I live in New Orleans.

Before you know it, you'll be feeling your lil bean moving around in there!!

You should call and set up your appointment at the very least. Some doctors don't have room for an initial pregnancy appointment (they can take awhile) and your appoinment may not get scheduled for 3 weeks from now?

Take vitamins.

most doctors wont even see you until atleast 8 weeks anyway so its ok.

but i agree call and set your appointment up now for when you're about 8 weeks because if you wait you may get in later than that, and thats not good for the baby since you are going to need prenatal vitamins and maybe other stuff.

the way this doc works is you can go in at 10:30 or 1:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only. They do not set an appointment until you go down and fill out all of the paperwork. It sounds really weird, the only reason why I really want this doctor is because he was my friends doctor and he was really great. he let her have an ultrasound whenever she wanted to. He was very caring and answered all of her questions. But another friend of mine only was able to get the ultrasound to find out the sex and when she was close to being due. They were very far inbetween. I want a doc that care about the baby.

I talked to my pharmacist and I have started taking pre-natal vitamins already. He compared the store kind with the prescription kind and they are nearly exactly alike. Except the script kind has more of everything, like 200%. He said that a lot of the extra stuff ends up in the toilet anyway.

make sure you have LOTS of calcium in your diet as well. I didn't see a doctor til I was 21wks, and they only thing she yelled at me for was being over 200lbs (fyi, I was 195 before and haven't been under 200 since 8th grade, I'm 18 now). Take as many supplements as possible too. Fiber pills are a godsend, let me tell you lol. along with that I take DHA and Lipil supplement called Expecta. Kinda expensive, but helps with Brain and Eye development, so it's worth every penny. Also get a BIG thing of Tums (or generic equivalent) good for heartburn AND calcium supplement. So that's a total of 7 pills (5 fiber pills at once) a day (ALL horse pills too) plus the chew able Tums twice a day.. don't you just love pregnancy??

The reason your 2 friends so different amount of ultrasounds is because they had different insurances.

Medicaid only pays for 2 (unless there are problems NEEDING extra ultrasounds).

But if you have a private health insurance, you can get as many as you want/need!!!

Hearing the heartbeat is just as good as an ultrasound if you can only get 2!!
