Neck Lumps On a 7 Year Old Posted: 09-11-03 12:25pm
My son just turned 7 years old, but for
the past year he has been complaining
about 2 lumps he has at the base of his
neck on the right and left side. He says
they hurt him and when I feel around I can
feel very small bb to pea size lumps. I
have taken him to the Dr. And even a
second opionion, they tell me that it is
nothing or that it may have to do with
allergies. He is still telling me they
hurt. I am divorced so only see him every
other weekend. Should I take him to a
specialist? If so, what kind of
specialist would I take him to? Thanks

I would take him either to an allergist or
an ent (ear-nose-throat) specialist.
I'm trying to think what would be located
in that area of the neck/throat and lymph
glands is all that comes to mind.
If your son is complaining of pain, I
would believe him. Sometimes, when a
child's parents are divorced/separated,
they are hurt over it and don't know how
to talk about it, which can become actual
physical symptoms. But I would still
take him to another doctor. It would be
terrible to assume it's nothing physical,
and then something be wrong.
How is he handling you and his mom not
being together?
Been divorced for 4 years now. At first
he and his older brother took it hard but
I think they are fine now. I live 4
hours away but still drive every other
weekend if not every weekend to see them.
I spoke to his mother today to find out
what they first told her about the lumps
and she said it was a ear infection. I
still want another opinion from a
specialist. Plus its a small town so I
wanna drive to san antonio, texas to a
doctor there. Know anyone I might take
him too?
