I have three boys and I didn't circumsize
them. I was once told it is like
de-virginizing them. I know a lot of guys
are. It's just a personal discision.

where i am from in the united kingdom,
circumcision is not routinely carried out.
if as an adult you wish to be circumcised
then it is your choice what you do to your
body, and in understand that sometimes
circumcision must be carried out on
medical grounds. but i believe routine
circumcision of babies by their parents is
wrong.

It depends where you go. It is most common
in North America, though it is slowly
becoming less and less common. In most
countries circumcision is only practiced
for religions/medical reasons.

Circumcision Decision Posted: 01-30-08 14:28pm
For what it's worth, I, myself, am
circumcised and have never had a problem
with sensation or anything of that matter.
But I do know 5 boys/men who were
uncircumcised who, for various medical
reasons(infection, abscess(sp?), non
retracting foreskin) who had to get
circumcised. Now, this may be rare, but
for the few people whom I know were
uncircumcised, many of them got it done in
their adolescence and adulthood and you
can imagine how hard (no pun intended) it
was for them later in life to have this
procedure.
Also, as a teacher, I've had several
parents over time state to me that their
child was shy about changing in locker
rooms and were genuinely self conscious of
their uncircumcised penis. This, to me,
seems more cultural, considering I live in
the US. Now I'm sure the same may be said
for circumcised kids in Europe.
Making this decision is important and not
an easy one, and I know it's a personal
choice, but I just wanted to share my
experience with expectant parents if they
are undecided in the matter and I hope
I've shed some real life situations to
help you make the decision to or not to
get a circumcision.

Circumcision is more common is most
English-speaking countries (Britain, US,
Australia, Canada etc.). It is not the
norm where I live, Ireland, or in most
other countries around the world. So the
answer to the question is: depends where
you are.
It seems a lot of people are
self-conscious about the appearance of an
uncircumcised penis amongst their peers,
especially in the US where communal male
showering is more common due to the
emphasis on team sports. Growing up, I
never had to shower in front of other
naked men so I guess this problem has
never occured to me on a personal level.
It seems kind of ridiculous however.

Just an update on Australia and
circumcision rates.
Back in the late 80's 90% of males were
cut. These days less than 10%
are circumcised and most public hospitals
have now banned the practice.

Amanda4: De-virginizing? Posted: 04-01-08 15:12pm
I'm a bit concerned about Amanda4's
original statement:
"I was once told it is like de-virginizing
them."
A boy who has been circumsized and has
never had intercourse is definitely still
a virgin! I was circumsized as a baby
and did not have intercourse for the first
time until I was 20. I was definitely a
virgin for those 20 years! So, if that is
your reason for not having your sons
circumsized, well, it just doesn't make
sense. Is the boys' father still around?
If so, what does he want? Generally,
fathers want their sons to "look like
Dad."

Personally I did it because I think it's
just the right thing to do, although if I
have another boy I'm getting a doctor who
will use anesthesia and I'm not sticking
around to watch. I know the baby doesn't
remember, but maybe it's just more of a
hardship for me to watch.
I also know that it keeps the boys more
clean and keeps down infection and
disease. I know it's just a conjecture of
mine, but maybe that is part of the reason
why there is more disease: that more and
more people are not having their boys
circumcised?
I don't want to go all religious on
anyone, but God commanded that all the
Jews be circumcised. They recognized God
as their creator and Lord and knew that he
would always do what was best for them
because they were God's chosen people. I
don't think a whole nation could be duped
into doing something that wasn't good for
them either.
As for not being a virgin or like not a
virgin if you are circumcised, I've never
heard of that. Being a virgin means you
haven't had sex, no matter what your penis
looks like or how it has been operated
upon.

Most guys I know are circumcised and all
the past boyfriends have been circumcised.
My current boyfriend is not circumcised.
If I have a boy he will be circumcised.
