Heart attack and Pericarditis
Posted: 01-07-08 16:45pm

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I hope I'm writing this question in the the correct place. I am a 47 year old single man in good shape. I've had one surgery back in 86 to remove my gall bladder. I recently had pains underneath both my ribs. I went to the doctor, he did an EKG and I was told I had a heart attack. I run 3 miles a night, and 6 miles on the weekend, working out almost every night. I am in a stressful job with the same company 25 years (hard to believe). They rushed me to the emergency room and did an Angiogram and EchoCardiogram and I was in the hospital for 3 days. It was determined I had Pericarditis. I've been doing much research online in determining how I got this (a month prior I had my annual physical and the EKG was normal) and how long it takes to go away, will it come back, do I now have what's considered a 'heart disease' and how will this affect my workouts. I've been on disability from work for 2 weeks and I'm going back Thursday. Any feedback anyone can give me is appreciated, or any resources I can research online would be appreciated as well. Both my Cardialogits and PCP doctors agreed that I will be fine in two weeks and can resume my normal workout but I'm scared. The initial doctor who sent me to the ER disagrees and stated I should be out of work for 6 weeks and be given a stress test.

Thanks in advance for reading this and I apprecate your responses and feedback.

Are you interested in trying other, less stressful forms of exercise?

Considered yoga, for example? Wink
