so what is it done religously for?
does god want it done or something?
Yep. Men who are uncircumcised are "unclean". From what I know, the most common religions that do this trace their origins back to Judeism for the custom. Christianity and Islam both branched off of Judeism in their own time. Well, Judeism branched off of Christianity, but that's not the point.
well then why did god make thier penis' that way? if god cares so much he should just make men born without them.
Shh, don't point out the loopholes in their religion!!
In all honesty, in ancient Israel circumcision was done for sanitation reasons. Yes, a circumcised penis is easier to keep clean, and in a country where water was rare and during a time where medical care was... well, nearly non-existent, preventing a disease was a smart idea. That's also why anal sex was a bad idea. You'll notice that in countries where water is abundant, circumcision is not often a ritual at ALL. It's not in ancient China. I'm pretty sure ancient Celts weren't lopping of pieces of their penises. Native American's didn't do it either. So too in these countries was anal sex and the related homosexuality often accepted and not considered evil.

the Girlfriend
And, just imagine what we would miss without men having a penis. Not a good thing. Better than sliced bread, delicious olive oil and a glass of wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon wine. Last meal if I had to choose one. I would rather have someone I love, sharing my life with him and being held close and loving him.

Let's Face It
You love men, or, most importantly, somebody, your special man, you are gonna love his penis. What a gift. And, loving someone sexually is a gift.
Is that you or your most favourite actress, Claire Dane? She was so wonderful in Romeo and Juliet.

yes, girlfriend, I doubt any teenager would be taking a shower with his dad, but they usually do when they are younger because they want to be just like them. And if they are different, they may try to make themselves look like them. That's why you walk in and find they are drawing hair on themselves when they are 5.
Maybe they should give them hair transplants so they don't go through that trauma.
I can't believe there is even a debate here. People are actually advocating for the mutilation of babies just so they can look like someone else.

no.. not all are done for religious reasons! My X was far from being anything tuned into to God.. he owns a nudist camp passed down from generation to generation and they where not Circumcised, because they believed in the all natual thing.. even to the point of having sex with their children.
That would be proving my point. Religious people commonly circumcise, and NON religious people like your X do not.
your right I was thinking backwards..

My Anthro. of Judaism prof looked at me funny when I wanted to to my term paper on circumcision.
Though I agree with you, Eiri, because that seems to me to be the practical answer, Jews would tell you that circumcision is a huge sign of the covenant between God and those who he chose as his people. Abraham circumcised himself and all of those in his tribe as a symbol of that covenant. Brit milah [\i] or [i]bris as it is called in Judaism current day is the continual honouring of that covenant. There are many other symbolisms that they use, such as sacrificial blood (carried out throughout jewish history, as in the passover), returning to where you came from (as the foreskin is disposed of in soil), and Jewish patriarchy.

oh, and I've said this on here before, but Circumcision in itself, I don't disagree with. I disagree with parents making the decision for their children to remove a part of their body before they're able to make the choice themselves (with the exception of extenuating circumstances such as infection etc.).

His penis, his choice. I believe that parents who alter a child's sexual organs without said child's consent are doing him a grave injustice, UNLESS there are valid and immediate medical reasons that would actually require the circ for the baby's health. Being too lazy to clean and teach the child how to clean it doesn't fall under that category.

Are you really going to argue with me over the male's choice? What about the female's choice in abortion? I mean certiainly if we can force birth upon women we should force circumcision among men, amiright? Give it up, hyporcrites!
