weakness and tingling with Topomax Posted: 01-07-08 09:53am
Hi. I just started taking topomax for
migraines three days ago. I read some of
these posts before starting and expected
some weakness and tingling. I was looking
very forward to the added benefit of not
being hungry/weight loss. So far I am
only on 25 mg but the side effects are
pretty severe. What a bizzare drug. I
take it before I go to bed. I wake up
through the night and feel very weak and
weighted. (its not so bad during the
day). Up until last night I had not
experienced any tingling. Last night I
was awakend to what I assume people are
talking about but it did not feeling like
a light tingling to me. It felt like a
violent jolt with a cattle prod in my
ankle. Luckily, it was short lived but it
was horribly uncomfortable and just really
grossed me out and had me feeling very
nauseous. Also, I am still eating! At
least if I felt like I was already losing
weight or not hungry I could say it was
worth it but I have not noticed anything
in that department as of yet. I am
supposed to be increasing my dosage in two
weeks if I am tolerating the drug. I
dont' feel like I'm tolerating it. Any
advice??

Weakness And Tingling With Topomax Posted: 01-12-08 18:29pm
I just started Topomax on Jan 1st and I am
getting a few bizarre side effects as
well. The tingling is not too bad as it
mirrors the aura with the migraine. I too
am still eating -lol. I am wondering if
you are feeling any cognitive side effects
or feeling emotional. I had an episode
yesterday that I am still trying to
process. Maybe if you would like to - we

I wish very much for this drug to work as
I was experiencing 4-6 migraines a week
and using Fiornal to manage them.

Sure, I'd love to chat. My email is [edit
for personal info-please use private
messaging system]. Since the last time I
posted, I have not had that severe of a
"tingle" but I think a huge part of that
is knowing what to expect. Through the
day I often get jolted lol in my hands or
fingers and usually my left foot for some
reason but it mostly feels like they went
to sleep and its not a big deal. Nights
became easier until a couple of days ago.
On Monday I started getting stomach cramps
and that night, I woke up to severe
nauseau and just like someone just ran me
over with a truck--not just the weakness
but soreness. It was a totally new
syptom. At least this drug is not boring.
It keeps you on your toes. Anyway the
next day the cramping continued and was a
mixed blessing because finally, I did not
eat much for a couple of days. Today I
don't really feel the cramping. Last
night I felt sore, weak, and like my legs
would not work but again, that feeling is
short lived and gone by the next time I
wake up (which is a lot more frequent
since taking the pill). I was still a
little nautious but not as bad. As far as
the cognitive aspects, I have not noticed
anything emotional, but I have noticed
ditzy-stoney moments. The things that
stand out are --a few days ago I was
trying desperately to get a package of
shredded cheese open and could not figure
out why it would not open. My boyfriend
came over and said, what's wrong with you
and turned it upside down and unzipped it
immediately. This morning I found a
bottle of apple juice I'd put back in the
fridge with probably 1/16" of an inch of
juice left in it. Things like that. No
big deal, just ditzy. Anyway, look
forward to talking. Amy
