My son is 10 years old, he has an appointment with a neorlogist next month. He has been having migraine headaches at least three times a month. When gets them he can't eat or drink anything, he immediately starts to throw up. He becomes very week and can't do anything other than just lie down. He some how feels that warm baths help him alot.

It is pretty scary, this has been happening since he was seven years old. He's already had an mri and the doctor sent him a prescription nose spray.
Anyone know any remedies?

Im sorry I cant offer any remedies. I also get severe migraines, usually about once a week. Usually you just have to let them pass, lay down with an icepack in a dark room. There are some medications such as zomig that are effective some of the time, but it would have to be taken right when the migraine is coming on, not in the middle of it. Sorry can't be of much help.

I would imagine the ice pack would work better than warmth. The cold ice would cause the nerve endings which are swollen to shrink back down.

I understand darkness helps, and quiet. I know several migraine sufferers and they try to control them with diet (eliminating caffeine, chocolate, nuts, etc.), but all of them take some kind of medication.

I feel for your son, and it must be very hard for you to feel you can't help him.

Me 2
I have been having migraines since I was 4 years old and now i'm 18. I have went through all the test and many medications but I think we have finally found a med. That is helping. To make his headaches hurt less put a cold ice pack on his head keep in in a quite, cool, dark room. If the ice pack doesn't help then try a warm press. I know it sounds funny but depending on the kind of headaches.

Rizatriptan
I got my first migraine this april (i'm 23) the following start mine:

stress (he's only 10, but school can be brutal)
leaning over a desk
eye strain

varying my diet has had no effect. I take a wafer (a pill that dissolves on the tongue for rapid effect) called rizatriptan. It is the only thing that helps. Also, when I get the first pang of discomfort, I take 2 400mg tablets of super strength motrin. It helps stop the migraine from becoming the end of the world.
. I have two aunts that get these too. Don't use tylenol 3, it just makes me stoned and doesn't help the pain.

I'm the Expert On Migranes!
Listen up! Most of the advice is correct, but first some question.

Does he get migranes when he can't eat, or is it visa versa?
Does he only throwup while having a migrane?(besides regular sickness)
is he stressed out about something?
Are the migranes reagular, as in time of month and day?

Sometimes if I haven't eaten, i'll get a migrane, or if i've been really stressed out about something. Also if he hasn't had enough caffeine and he's used to it, then chocolate or sode might help. Get a cold compress(not hard ice)and put it at the base of the neck. If it's really bad, at the wrist as well. For some people silence and darkness helps. Also, don't make a big deal about it around him. Not only will it excite him and make it worse, but he might start to do it on purpose for attention!Usually for someone as young as him, doctors won't prescribe the serious stuff casue it has steriods, and could mess his growth up. Sometimes medicine won't even help, it never has wiht me. Also, another thing that could bring it on is a sudden drop in blood sugar or pressure. Sorry this is so long! Answer those questions and I might be able to help more! Good luck! :d
