Q: When Does It Start to Get Better?

Well I was awakened by yet another phone call from the NICU. They are re-testing for RSV. She had another bad night. Poor blood gasses and back up to 100% on her oxygen. She had a very long brady/desat with her morphine dose at around 9pm, so things must have gotten worse since then through the night. Any how, I've been at the hospital since 10 am and just got home and it's now 5:40 pm. They still haven't gotten the result back on the RSV and it probably won't be in till the morning. We had to re-wrap her leg bacause it had slid to her ankle. She did pretty good with us messing with her leg. Hopefully OT will come out tomorrow morning and get something more fitting for her leg and more comfortable. I looked at the leg on the x-ray and it looks like it could be a complete break or a greenstick break.....kinda hard to tell because of the position of her leg. And there was too much swelling of the tissue around it to tell by the touch. The NP said it sould heal pretty quickly though. Well that's all I got today. I'll post new info tomorrow. Oh yea, her oxygen had been weaned down to 38% by time I left this afternoon.

I hope and pray tat she dosen't have that RSV. There is a baby there that got it and is now on ECMO (life support). And it's just so sad!

Rachel, I'm going to sit here and pray that Carly doesn't EVER need to go on ECMO. With my mom being a nurse, I have heard many of her stories about ECMO babies, and I can't imagine that happening to Carly.
Things have to get better. They just HAVE to.

I am at a loss for words Sad That poor baby has had to endure more in her short life than most adults do in a lifetime. I am hoping that all of our prayers are answered soon so that sweet little Carly can take a little break from fighting and just be a baby Smile

Update 1-7-08
Well no RSV!! But Carly does have an infection in her blood AGAIN! She's on 3 different antibiotics and will remain on them for 21 days. She had a bad morning with I think some where around 7 desats in an hours time. You can look at her and tell she dosen't feel good. Hopefully the antibiotics will help her feel better soon. As for her leg, still no better brace on it. We are waiting for the Peds Ortho Dr. to come by and set the bone and have OT put a better brace on it. Hopefully it will be done by this afternoon. She's still taking the morphine for pain.

My friend's baby's heart surgery was pushed back and is scheduled to be tomorrow morning at 7am. She's really nervous. Her and her baby will no longer be in the North Nursery with me and Carly. I'm really gonna miss them. Brianna is one of my biggest supporters. We help each other through all of our ups and downs. It's gonna be hard not having her there everyday. Carly and her baby DeAnna are neighbors. Hopefully in many weeks to come her baby will have recovered enough to come back. Please remember Bri and her daughter in your prayers.

Good! Much better than the past several days. I decided not to take the meds for anxiety. I don't want anything to be "fuzzy" to me. But I'm feeling like I can pull through today! Smile If only I could get rid of this stinking headache! Sad
