I discovered a red bump on my scalp just above my ear last week. My dermatologist suspected atypical melanoma (non-pigmented) and he removed it for testing. I was terrified until the results came back and it was a basal cell carcinoma. I didn't think it was possible to get a bcc in the hair since it is not exposed to uv...I have a full head of long hair, however I work outside for most of the day here in southern calif. Anyone heard of this?

It's not as uncommon as you think. Iwill be 50 this year and have had skin cancer for the last 15 years. A couple of bad burns as a kid and the rest is history. Everything i've had so far has been bcc, knock on wood.
All the growths have been in areas where the most sun damage was done.
Face, neck, shoulders, back and the top of my head.

Had the mohs procedure done on my neck, damn it's an ugly scar. But i'm still here :d :d

blonde hair, blue eyes and the sun just don't mix Sad
