Sore on Neck
Posted: 01-04-08 10:11am

Hey.

lol. since i had no idea what this would go under, here it is. For the past, i donno, 4-5 years, i have had this sore on the back on my neck. and i use to have two, one on each side, but the right one stopped. The left sore, i guess you can say oozes. lol. most of the time it is more of a yellow i guess with blood. I have tried putting cream on it and it never works. when my neck isnt "acting up" as i call it because i dont know what to call it, im glad. just recently i have gotten to the point where i can kind of control it. but i can go for a week and i would be fine. then it will start to swell, and gets pretty painful. where i cant really relax.

it gets so big that i can cup my hand over it. i have never measured it, but i would guess that it is around 2 inches in diameter at those points. it does smell when it oozes. And i am tired of having to wear a rolled up towel around my neck. lol. so i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of something like this or have it. When searching today, i came apon a board on here about somehing kind of similar. But it was in the wrong place. and i guess it is only common in guys. they called it pylonidal cyst.

so i signed up here to see if anyone can help me. ^_^ Please help me if anyone can. lol

Um.. I'm not really sure what it is, however I think you should probably get it checked out with a doctor. Have you been to the doctor yet?

Yeah I was thinking that cyst also. my husband had one one of those and it was really painful for him. He finally had to have surgery on it.

Im not sure though what yours is. I would suggest going to get it checked out. 4-5 years of letting it go could be causing you more harm. Let a doctor tell you what it is and he can treat it.

its really no big deal--they wouldnt knock you out. just numb the area and basically remove infected tissue--just like they would to a wart

Why would you be scared of surgery? It really isn't that bad. You might not even need it. They might be able to just drain it. I had a cyst removed from my cheek and they gave me something that put me to sleep for a few hours and they made a very small insision and I only had one stitch.
There is nothing to worry about with that kind of surgery

that and you wouldnt want it to adversly effect something else. it is possible for it to cause other problems as well.

but i do "drain" it. as much as i can until all i really see is some blood. normal blood. and looking it up, a non sergical remedy is to drain it. but that only works for a few days to a week.

my sister has a cyst on her neck. The dr said it is fine as long as she drains it and it doesn't bother her. So far it doesn't and she just knows when to drain it. But you should have it checked out just to be sure that is what it is.

LOL Suzy "start"

I can't even imagine a doctor telling someone to drain their own cyst. How steril can that be? A doctor can drain it the correct way and it might never come back. If it does, then surgery might be needed. If this bump is 2 inches in diameter, that is nothing you should mess with by yourself. Just think of all the bacteria that you might introduce into your sore by draining it yourself.

The cyst that I had was only the size of a dime and it bothered me so I had the doctor take care of it the correct way.

I also had a friend that had about a 2 inch cyst on the back of his neck. He didn't want to get it looked at either and finally after much convincing from his friends he decided to go to the doctor and the doctor said that it must be removed because it had started to change (don't remember exactly what he said) and that it needed to be removed IMMEDIATELY...

Dont wait until you have to do something drastic about it.

Just from what I have seen in the past...don't let things like this go without medical attention. Just not a very intelligent idea.

You really need to have it checked out. Simply draining it will not always get rid of it. Sometimes the enitre sac needs to be removed. By not treating it properly you are running the risk of major infections such as staph, which can be very harmful if it gets into your blood stream. Please see the doctor.
