I am a 60 year old woman and have just experienced a sore nipple for only a day with a very small creamy discharge. I am concerned to find out if this is hormonal of some form of infection.

Do you feel itching or burning around the nipple?
Are you experiencing tenderness in the nipple or surrounding breast tissue?
Is the nipple discharge dirty white, greenish or black?

One of the most frequent cause for nipple discharge in women during and after menopause is a condition known as mammary duct ectasia (a milk duct beneath the nipple becomes dilated and filled with fluid and then becomes blocked or clogged with a thick, sticky substance.)
Two main symptoms are dirty white, greenish or black nipple discharge with tenderness in the nipple or surrounding breast tissue.

Hi
MandMs, .had to add you to my contact. You are a world of information! I would also suggest that this lady go and have a mammogram. At least rule out that its anything worse. I also had discharge that looked like super glue....turns out I am awaiting a lumpectomy March 4th. At first they thought it was a stopped up milk gland. Then I had a needle biopsy.... OUCH>>>>>>>> Abnormal cells now call for more drastic measures. I only had the leak about twice and it was not enough to hardly see. Please have this looked into! Probably noting, but not worth risking a wonderful life over! HUGS!

breast discharge
I'm 60 also and just had a clear discharge from one breast. My mammo has come back OK, still waiting on the cytology report on the discharge and prolactin results from my blood tests. My nipple is also slightly discolored (bluish/grn). The nurse called today and said "You're mammo is fine, we'll see you in one year." I said "wait a minute!" What I have been reading on line has been a cause of concern especially with my strong family history of breast cancer. I guess I'm just going to be on pins and needles for a while. The main thing is to be proactive. Don't wait until it's too late to do anything if it is something negative.

Good For YOU!
Phototeacher..............I am ver proud of you for stnading up and saying something. Too many people just go on in life and deal with WHATEVER that certain doctor or nurse has to say. I for one, took the bull by the you know what. I had discharge a year ago, but this was passed as a "stopped up milk gland?" WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL now it turns out, after several mammograms, a core needle biopsy and lumpectomy......I am having a MASTECTOMY next Thur. Ductual Carcinoma in insitu/Infilterative ductal carcinoma......how long has this been here....depending on sentinel lymph node test, determines chemo......I'd be lying if I said, 'I can't wait to get this party started"!!!!!!! You go and get opinions and nip it in hte bud girlriend.......I am only 50, no breast cancer in my family............

Good luck
My prayers are with you. It is a battle getting taken seriously. They write you off as being "hysterical" I have downloaded a ton of info that I am bringing in to my next appt. So they better do more than tell me "we'll watch it." Best of luck on Thursday!
