I would definately attempt to remove it myself or have my partner assist me (if that wouldn't be awkward in your situation) and if that fails...as horrific as it sounds, you need to see a GYN and make sure that you get it out. Anything unnatural left inside there can cause serious health problems.

It might come out naturally, but don't wait around for it! Roll up your sleeves and dig in, girl. You can't leave things in there.

It may never have come out; is it out now!? She needs to go to a doctor immediately if it is not out and if you two cannot remove it. Unclean objects inside of the vagina can cause severe disease. You wouldn't leave something lodged in your foot now would you? Not if you were smart.
