Q: Very Concerned

Hi I was wondering if someone could help ease my concerns. On monday 4-19 , my 5 year old neice was out in the sun most of the day. She developed a "butterfly" like rash on here face. There are no other rashes on her body. She went to the dr on 4-20 and the dr said not to put anything on the rash, and if the the rash persists for several days then they might need to screen for lupus. She has no other symptoms and is a healthy kid. As of today the rash has greatly improved. My question is: is having this "butterfly" rash on her face a classic sign of lupus? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi there, kingmoko...

Yes, a "butterfly rash" otherwise known as a malar rash is a trademark of lupus. However, not all lupus patients have it and not everyone with the rash...Has lupus. Confusing isn't it?

Lupus is like that... :d

a good website to get the basics is www.Lupus.Org.

If you have any other questions, the people here are great!

I have lupus...If I can help, I will.

Hugs,
