My doctor gave me my first birth contrl shot, but it wasn't the first day of my period. It wasn't even time for my period to come on. Is my shot still effective??

Of course, after one week. Why wouldn't it be? You need to wait one week because that's how long (potentially) an egg can ovulate and be viable in, so once you've waited that week, then you're safe.

The ONLY advantage to getting the shot during your period is instant protection without the one-week wait.
