Q: Ultrasound results in early pregnancy

i had anormal period on november 10, 07 then a slight period on dec 7, 07. home pregnacy test positive on dec 22 and test in doctors office positive on dec 24. doctor said 7 weeks and two days pregnant. ultrasound on dec 31 showed nothing, is this possible?

Yes, it is possible to test positive for pregnancy w/an ultrasound that shows nothing if you had a miscarriage or are experiencing an extra-uterine pregnancy. In the case of miscarriage, a pregnancy test will become negative in a couple of weeks. In cases of extra-uterine pregnancy, the pregnancy test will remain positive but the levels of HCG won’t increase as rapidly as they do during a normal pregnancy. It is very important for you to confirm or exclude extra-uterine pregnancy because such a condition can be life-threatening.
