Q: Pain down back of legs

So I've been getting constant pains. They aren't that bad and easily manageable. I also every once in a while get a pain going down the back of my legs. It got a bit worse when I just showered. I have a feeling it's just BH but I'm not sure.. If it gets worse tonight or in the morning I'm gonna talk to my mom about going just to get checked out... I really hope it's nothing. I'll be 37 weeks on Wednesday so I would think he'd be fine if he was born now but I want him to stay in there as long as possible because it's better for him... Wish me luck that it's just my ming playing tricks on me.. I'll update you all tomorrow afternoon...

I'm so relieved that you are probably going to get checked out. It's the right thing to do.

He'll be fine if he's born now. Full term is anywhere between 37-42 weeks.

Are ypu sure that her breathing problem was because of being born at 37 weeks?

Your pregnancy: 37 weeks

How your baby's growing:
Congratulations — your baby is full term! This means that if your baby arrives now, his lungs should be fully mature and ready to adjust to life outside the womb, even though your due date is still three weeks away.

Are you sure it wasn't just because her lungs didn't inflate right away? That happened to one of my dd's lungs and she was born right on her due date. She was taken to the NICU right away, and her lung inflated by itself on the way up to the NICU, so she was fine.

THANK GOD! (It is all so nerve-wracking, isn't it?)

yes the drs were positive
anytime a baby is born before 40 weeks its at risk for complications
her lungs were not mature enough yet. even though its considered "full term"

it was the scariest thing id evenr been through
i didnt get to hold my baby for SIX hours after she was born. and the first night she was in NICU until the next afternoon

My third daughter was born at 37 weeks and was fit as a fiddle. My oldest was born at 42, and needed some intensive immediate care for meconium aspiration. Heck, I was born at 32/33 weeks and had only mild breathing difficulties.

It all depends on the baby. 37 weeks is considered full term, not a preemie, so it's as safe as can be expected. Even a baby at 40 weeks can having breathing difficulties, the risk goes up the farther from term (37 weeks) you get, as the lungs haven't matured.

Princess...that's [I should say sounds like] sciatica, as girlfriend noted. Baby is pressing on your lower spine. I used to get awful sciatica through my hamstrings.

Unfortunately for you, it can be a signal that you'll experience "back labor" (when the baby's engaged head causes increased pressure on the spine during a contraction). If you had any notions of going au natural for your delivery, you should start getting them out of your mind. If you have back labor, you'll be screaming for an epidural by the time your contractions are 4 minutes apart. Sad

Well, as of right now (seeing as I just woke up) I'm not having any pains. I'm going to wait a few hours to see what happens and if I start to get even the sliest pain I'm going to have her take me because i'm scared that something could be wrong with me or Kaleb.

Altari- I planned on having an epidural... My mom told me i'd be nuts if i didn't get one. Tho' the nurse when my brother was born almost killed my mom and brother when giving her meds..that kinda scares me..lol

Well...a nurse should NOT give you an epidural - this should only be done by an anesthesiologist. If she even tries to get near your back with anything other than betadine, get up and RUN, lol.

Nurses can give you IV meds, such as demerol, although I wasn't too fond of that. It works on your body in such a way that you get completely relaxed. I had to be hooked up to all sorts of monitors when I received it, because [I was told] some women are so relaxed they just stop breathing.

Ok sounds like Demerol. You *can* have doses 30 minutes apart, but only if it isn't having an effect and at your dr's discretion. They are supposed to be an hour apart. I had 3 doses in 1.5 hours, since it wore off in 15 minutes, 5 minutes, and 0 minutes, respectively. Usually your nurse will schedule you for an epi at that point.

So, I think I'm ok now. I'm not having any sharp pains just some back pain and a little pain in the front. I should prolly still have have my mom take me to get checked out but I feel ok right now. Should I still have her take me?

Although 37 weeks is "full term" the longer the better to reach 40 weeks!

I am very glad you are going to get checked out!
