I am considered "obese" by the medical field (and me), but most of my weight is in the abdomen and I have a pannicula. My pain specialist and rehabilitation specialist (I am Social Security disabled from degenerative disc disease of entire spine though worse in the low lumbar area) have said that an abdominoplasty would remove a lot of weight on my back (100 lbs for every 10 lbs) and advise it. I need the muscles tighted as well for back support. I have had two C-sections and a total hysterectomy. Do you believe it can be deemed "medically necessary" and how do you get Medicare to help pay the cost of this. I was sent to the pain physician by a neurosurgeon who said he had nothing to offer me but pain management. I am told that it is a cosmetic procedure, but that is not why I want it. With the amount of pain I have, what I look like is the least of my worries.

It seems that the procedure was recommended by your pain and rehab specialist. Have you consulted any other doctors yet? They might help you negotiate your way through the necessary paperwork. If you need the procedure, fight for it!
