Here's my story. About 3 weeks ago I was
taking a shower and then tilted my head to
clear water from my left ear. When all of
the sudden I felt a clogging feeling in my
ear. I Went to my ear doctor to have it
checked out. After the doc cleaned my ear
from wax, It still was clogged (I was not
able to hear too good). A week later, he
said i had fluid in my middle ear that
needed to be removed. He completed the
procedure, afterwards my hearing was the
same and there was no improvement. Now,
the doctor is saying that my hearing loss
is permanent due to a viral infection.
Right now I have hearing loss and a bad
ringing in my ear.
I don't completely understand what has
happened due to this situation, so if
anyone has information or anyone that
could possible help me, please reply ASAP.

Is your doctor talking about a current
viral infection or one that you
contractesd in the past? 3 weeks seems
too little time to have developed such an
extreme consequence.

A week prior to my hearing loss, I came
down with the flu. But, I still don't
understand how rinsing shower water out of
my ear, cause hearing loss and ringing in
ear.

So hearing loss developed in one week as a
cause of water and a viral infection?
You might want to seek a second opinion
from another ENT specialist!

Otitis media usually results from a
bacterial or viral infection. It can lead
to hearing loss.
In some cases of inner ear infection
(which are usually viral), permanent loss
of hearing or damage to the vestibular
system can occur. VEDA publication F-9,
Vestibular Neuritis and Labyrinthitis:
Infections of the Inner Ear
