vocal chord spray for tourettes Posted: 12-29-07 12:27pm
Hi,
At the age of ten i was diagnosed with
tourette syndrome (i.e loud shouts every 6
to 10 seconds)
I met with neurologists that prescribed
medicatons that i tried yet gave up on and
never took seriously as i can hold in the
shouts perfectly and did not address the
problem.
In the recent months after graduating
highschool i am finding it hard to hold a
job or do college work and i feel that i
now must deal with this issue
In doing so i have come to the
conclusion that i do not in fact have
tourrette syndrome yet a rare perhaps
nameless disease as i must scream
extremely loud to think as opposed to a
man with uncontrollable shouts looking for
tourrette medication as medication does
not apply to my situation whatsoever.
I am now seeking a cure that will
actually be able to help me in my everyday
life this is "Volume reduction" or
complete temporary loss of voice also
known as "Ritz" a paralyzing spray for the
vocal chrods
With this i will be able to shout on
buses, in my car, in a class room at the
top of my lungs without drawing attension.
If anyone has any knowledge about
complete temporary voice loss please help
me !! I am in distress ! No one
understands not even my family or hospital
!!!

Spray for Tourettes? Posted: 01-16-08 14:17pm
paralizing your vocal chords is not the
answer. Tourettes is ONLY characterized by
having MULTIPLE tics (vocal and motor
tics). Yelping alone does not constitute a
diagnosis. MOST (not all) neuro's don't
know alot about it so they throw it around
pretty loosely. Have you tried tic
medications? They are (oddly enough) the
same they use to treat parkinsons. Some
have little or no side effects. Catapres
(Clonidine) has worked well in some
patients. It is a blood pressure med. so
it has to be monitored. Ask around. I have
TS and know alittle about alot. Ask away!

Blulyneguy, do you mind if I ask you a
question? I know a guy who does strange
things like repeating the last words you
say to him, repeating these same words
maybe half an hoour later, repeating
irrelevant words and phrases over and over
(sometimes singing them out too!) and he
says he sees in his mind every word as it
is spoken, lin big coloured letters. He
says he also chops up the syllables of a
word as he hears it and rearranges it in
his head. He is obsessed by malapropisms
and catchphrases too.
I note you said earlier that TS is
characterised by multiple tics and now
that I think of it, he does have an
eyebrow and side of the mouth twitch
especially when he gets stressed.
Is this Tourette's? Is there a familial
tendency to it? I ask because I see his
father also does some of these things.

I totally get the 'mental pictures' of
words, numbers, re-arranging things
mentally. I have that and feel like rain
man alot (yeah, judge wapner on at 3!).
Anyways,
TS is tricky. But even though you may not
'see' a physical tic- some are there just
thought of (to the user) as a nervoius
twitch or habit. When I'm nervous I run my
hand over my head. Tick or nervous? I
dunno but I think it's a tick.
Your friend could very well have it. If
the mental portion is getting to him- seek
a neurologists help. Find one that
understands TS though or he may end up
drugged for nothing!
I DO see a pattern in families. They found
a gene that may be responsible for TS and
they do think it can be passed on. Not
quite sure yet tho-
Ask me anything- I don't get offended
easily. Take care!

Thanks, Blulyneguy. I don't think it gets
to him at all as he seems unaware that
what he is doing is unusual and his
disposition is confident almost to the
point of arrogance.
Actually, I too 'see' words and numbers in
my head as soon as I hear them. They seem
to light up in differnet colours
(depending on the word or number) eg '10'
is always red and 'work' would be brown
(someting to do with digging in mud)
whereas 'rest' is yellow, because it
sounds like aggs frying in a pan! Until
recently I thought everyone did this -
converted sounds to pictures.
I sometimes move letters around to form
other words if I have an idle moment and I
definitely 'write' arithmetical sums in my
head. I am very fast at calculating. and
solving anagrams. and I have always just
accepted that I am good at that, but now,
having read these posts, I am beginning to
wonder ... ah, isn't the internet great
for turning you into a hypochondriac?!

Me too! Posted: 01-29-08 09:48am
I am riddled with ADD and OCD as well as
TS. They are pretty much married at this
point! I too see 'colors' usually
associated with pain. I can work with
numbers quite quickly as I have
added/subtracted/multiplied most numbers,
re-arranged them, and done some 'new math'
to it as well. I have some strange tics
(mental) that I won't go into but if you
need more info. I'd be glad to talk with
you. So is it you or your friend that
could possibly have TS (or both). If it's
not controlling you or your daily
activities, I wouldn't seek treatment.
Although, it sometimes has controlled us
for so long- It SEEMS normal to us since
we don't know any other. Hope I can help
anyone out there with TS/OCD/ADD as I have
a successful career in management despite
my lack of concentration and weird quirks
(all with only zoloft to help with the
ocd). Ask me anything- I don't mind real
questions. Someone may ask something that
someone else is afraid to. Best wishes and
happy counting!
