intense pain when chewing Posted: 12-29-07 00:04am
Since I was little I would always get this
sharp intense pain as soon as I put food
in my mouth start to chew my food. Right
as it touches my cheek inside my mouth I
would get the pain. It's just an intense
burning feeling that makes me cringe
everytime it happens. It lasts for about 3
seconds and then goes away. The weird
thing is, this only happens the first or
second time I begin to eat. After that it
doesn't happen anymore. It happens on both
sides of my faces depending on which side
the food goes in. The pain feels like it
is in the nerves that originate right in
front of my ear. Sometimes I can feel it
slightly if I think about it and move my
saliva around.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Honestly I think it has something to do
with the saliva glands. I am trying not to
make it sound like TMJ even though I do
have it and that it COULD possible
contribute to it.
But another thing I noticed during dinner
is....
I would sit down and take my spoon and put
food on it, the smell of the food and just
right before i put the spoon in my mouth
triggers this burning pain. That is what
makes me think it has something to do with
the saliva glands being stimulated and
causing this pain somehow.

hum I dont know what to tell you. ive
never experienced something like this and
dont know of anyone that has--you could
bring this up in the ent forum--perhaps
someone there would know--the other place
would be mental health--im not saying that
there is something wrong with you--im just
saying that a lot of interesting things
like this come up there and there might be
someone there that could help--we also
have a general q and a forum and you could
always ask there too.
