Q: Need Advice- Child Won't Eat Just Drinks Cows Milk

Can anyone advise me what to do with Logan. He is almost 2 and just won't eat. He has been like this for as long as I can remember and now it has got to the point where he WILL NOT eat as he wants to drink cows milk all day. He has around 6 bottles a day and VERY little food.

I am embarrassed to speak to my paeditrican about it cause it's gone on so long. As of tonight I am refusing to give him milk now. All he's allowed is water. it's drastic but it's all i can think to stop him. i'm hoping he will get so hungry that he will eat food

I know there is nothing physically wrong with him as he will eat chocolate by the bucketload if i let him. I think it is pure stubborness

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

i dont have any advise since Reese loves food... but you could always call a pedi and not give your name or anything and just ask what to do with a child of logans age who wont eat and just wants to drink milk?

When my daughter was young she didn't eat well at all. She was a premie, so she was always small for her age. My sister had the same issue with one of her kids and it was reassuring to hear her say that kids that little don't really need much to sustain themselves. Believe it or not some toast and some fruit will keep them going. I guess if he's having a day where he will eat offer him lots of healthy stuff. It's probably just a phase and soon enough he'll be a bottomless pit.

Maybe your ped can recommend some vitamins and such so at least he's getting iron?

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I was cut of the milk to only 1 bottle a day. You're giving him too much milk and that's why he doesn't want regular food. I had the same problem with AVa. She's still picky, but she'll eat more.

have you tried bargaining with him? tell him he can have his milk but only after he eats ________. don't try to get him to eat a lot at first though, maybe 1/2 a piece of toast and some fruit or something.

Jacobs the same way.. some days he'll eat like a pig.. some days (like today) he'll eat a couple cookies (that mil gave him while we were gone tonight.. i was so pissed) and for lunch he ate a couple bites of hot dog. Breakfast was half a banana and LOADS of milk. Hes a strawberry milk FREAK.

Im told its just a stage... and they dont need much.. remember their stomachs are only as big as their fist.

we don't have flintstone vitamins here Sad

last night was torture. i put him to bed with some milk. at 3am he woke up wanting more milk. I gave him water and he threw a major tantrum. I was worried he would wake layla up so i brought him into the living room to calm him down. this lasted til 6.30am with him up and asking for milk til i cracked and gave him half a bottle. he finally went back to sleep at 7 til 9am.

my head hurts Crying or Very sad

Ugh that's tough. If it were me I would give him three CUPS of milk a day-no bottles, and only after a meal. You have to be tough, though, and I understand how easy it is to cave in. Hannah can whop the resolve right out of me with a good tantrum or two. But I wouldn't give him any more bottles. This may be the source of the problem. They do have Kids vitamins in Gummi Bears now, but I don't give my kids vitamins and it sounds like Logan is doing OK as far as weight goes.

Also during dinner, you and the others in your family should make a huge deal out of how great the food is and then make a big deal out of everyone who finishes gets dessert. Really talk it up and if he refuses to eat get him down from the table. Make dinner and meals an "elite dining expereince", so maybe the pressure of wanting to join in the fun will inspire him.

Hope this helps!
