My Question...based on the information
below is:
Should I have surgery to prevent possible
further damage or not?
Situation:
I have a bone spur impinging on my
rotator cuff in my right shoulder. The
MRI and XRAY are not clear whether there
is actually a tear in the rotator cuff.
I have, through yoga and pt reduced the
pain from a
5-10 (on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the
worst) -- to 0-2.
My range of motion, at this point in time,
is complete except for stong over the head
movements like hitting a tennis ball,
throwing a ball or swimming. I can do
them, but not more than once or twice
without pain

How important are these sports to you?
Can you live without playing them? B/c I
wish that I had never had invasive surgery
on my knees. It has onily caused
arthritis and meniscus cartilage
degeneration. Maybe concertate on those
activities that do not cause the pain and
give up the others?

The sports themselves are NOT that
important.
My PRIMARY reason for contemplating
surgery at this point is to prevent
possible serious damage later on. As of
now, my rotator cuff is either not torn at
all or has a very small tear.
Left untreated, it could or could not get
worse.
The other reason is that my wife works for
a major teaching hospital system. The
doctor I would use only does
shoulders...so he is an orthopedist
specialist.
I appreciate what you a saying about
surgery gone bad. That has been holding
me up for two years. This particular
surgery is three small cuts (about 1/4"
each). The doctor then uses a camera.

Sure thing, Glenn. It is just my opinion
that an invasive surgery should only be
done when necessary. Let us know what you
decide.
