Does a pinched nerve/nerves in the tmj require one to go to a neurologist? i'm almost positive i have one as i get crazy pain shocks sometimes when the jaw moves in and out of place..

No this doesnt require you to go to a neurologist.I would try a chiropractor first--one that has knowlege of tmd--only after that would i look further

the reason i know there is a pinched nerve is b/c my eye changes sizes on the opposite side ...my jaw is dislocated on the right but my left eye expands on the left...this is weird i know...a pinched nerve also is controlling my stomach muscles to be tight and is ruining digestion and gives a nerve racking feeling all day...there are soo many damn nerves in that region by the ear thats the messed up part...how can i concentrate like this when school is coming up...i refuse to take any drugs occasionally ativan but this is f*ked up...i may need arthroscopy i guess to fix this.. scared

You can also have compression in the TMJ area
Hi There,

You can also have a compression along the TMJ region caused by badly displaced discs. DId anything like that show up on an MRI. I have come across a european textbook that stated that TN can be caused by badly displaced discs, and by repositioning those discs that the TN can disappeared. It all depends some can have two seperate cases it all depends. But before surgery I would check out other avenues, surgery can never be reversed if it doesn't work out.

i haven't posted in a while but I am still taking ativan about 4 times a day to manage the pain...I do have a pinched nerve due to badly displaced disks and recently had botox injections that did nothing. I may go to a new surgeon b/c this one never checked mris b/c he said they are useless for this kind of thing. Although I have snapping cracking and popping but the tmd does not bother me its the underlying nerve pain.

Hi Trajedi
Did you ever get to a neurologist, wondering how things are going. The neurologist I saw never saw anything he just said there is some possible compression. That is all, and waved me off. I hope you are able to fair better than me with Doc's. Did you see an oral surgeon yet. They should be looking at an MRI. Let me know how it's going..

i know i have a pinched nerve. I just got botox done again i don't think it will work but i'll have to wait in see till the acetycholine receptors start diminishing in that region. The reason why ativan or any benzo would work is b/c they are muscle relaxers via gaba-a receptor enhancement allowing the trapped nerve to be more free. But they also dull the mind by inhibiting other neurotransmitters from firing and become less effective over time so i'm taking a ton of supplements and antioxidents to prevent further damage to my brain. The ativan is still very effective in me but its by no means a cure and i dont like living this way. Fatty acids are a must as well btw to prevent brain atrophy so down some fish oil in the meantime. The nerve compression is horrible i'm still researching on ways to help alleviate it. I know other things that are effective as ativan such as 5-htp, magnesium or passionflower taken together but ativan is simpler even tho its more synthetic. Basic things like ice and heat kinda work but are not a cure. I also tried to regenerate the joint with other supplements to no avail. This is one tough condition to live with but i'm not giving up hope on a cure. IMO this condition is mostly physical in nature via compression although there may be some CNS disturbances making the nerve firing worse. Cayenne pepper may help a bit too btw. Will update again when i have more useful info.

yep
I'm with you. Same thing with me. Partially displaced disk causing all the problems. Dizzyness and blurry vision and stomach issues and twitching.

Jaw problems
Sometimes when I open my mouth I experience a very painful pinch like feeling. It is so painful that I usually will drop everything and put my hand to my mouth until the pain subsides.

Any advice on what this may be and how I can make it go away? I also am taking adavan for anxiety.
