Pains And Other Stuff...

So, I'm 36 weeks as of yesterday. Recently
my stomach is hard (not all the time just
sometimes) and I keep getting these really
sharp pains down low inside of my
vagina... it feels like someone is
stabbing a needle into me. It's not all
the time but has been getting
progressively worse over the last week and
when I do get the pains they seem to get
worse when I walk. I was just wondering
what this could be and if it is normal...
thanks,
Ashley

This hardness that you feel is the result
of Braxton-Hicks contractions. They are a
normal part of pregnancy and no cause for
alarm. Sometimes they are painless,
sometimes they can be just a tad
uncomfortable, or sometimes even mistaken
for real labor if you haven't experienced
them before.
The vaginal pain is also normal. It's
just the baby positioning itself and
getting ready to come out, and your own
body moving around and softening up to let
it through. It can be very painful and
make you stop short, but it isn't hurting
you or the baby, and is a good sign that
your body is doing what it is supposed to
do.

Thanks much.
I was figuring that about Braxton-Hicks
but I wasn't sure..
I hope it's a sign that baby will be
coming soon?.. It does make me stop lol. I
was walking and trying to keep up with my
bf while getting one of those pains..it
sucked.
I don't want to ask my mom this stuff
because I'm afraid she'll make me go to
the hospital when i know it's nothing
serious..lol she's so worried about me lol

OK, so these pains. Do they start in the
front, or in the back? If they start in
the front, they are BH. If they start in
the back, they are probably warm up "fer
real" contractions. Non-productive signs
of early labor (which can continue on for
some time). BH shouldn't make you stop for
breath (although they can).
The vaginal pain is the baby descending.
There is normal cervical pain from the
baby pushing and turning, then there is
the actual pain of the baby descending (in
my experience, two very different things).
When was the last time you were at the OB?
You should be about due for a cervical
examination.
Unfortunately, it sounds like your body is
raring to go. I say unfortunately because
you could sit like this until 42 weeks
when they'll just induce you. Or you could
start labor tomorrow. I always hated just
waiting. Every twinge, I would think "Is
this it?! It has to be!!"

Well, the pains mostly start in the fron
every once in a while i'll get one that
starts in the back... It is rare when i
have to stop but sometimes it just hurst
so much.
The last time I was at the OB was the
18th.. I go back the 3rd
Are you serious? It could still be weeks?
Well my doctor said if I go even a day
over my due date that I can ask to be
induced (I'm hoping to go a bit before
though)... lol yeah, I do that a lot
because I'm so close and I just wanna hold
him..
I dropped over this past weekend (at least
i just noticed) and i hoping that was a
sign of him coming soon.. i don't wanna be
like this for still another few weeks

Sorry, hun.
With my first, I dropped at 34 weeks. I
lost my "plug" at 37. I had on again off
again contractions for 5 more weeks, until
I was induced at 42 weeks.
But, your baby might just decide now's the
time. It's a waiting game, and we're at
the mercy of the munchkins at your stage.
They won't come until they're ready.

I hadn't thought of this aspect of teenage
pregnancy before, the part about being
"made" to do anything. Being pregnant was
difficult enough, but if I wasn't in
complete control over my own destiny, I
would have flipped out. For example, just
knowing that someone would force me to go
to the hospital against my will would add
way too much stress to the situation for
me.
It is much more calming knowing that I
know when I need to go to the hospital and
I will go at the appropriate time. That's
just one decision of about a million that
I can think of where stress would be
introduced into the scenario if there were
someone over my shoulder 24/7 telling me
what to do, from feeding the baby, when to
change a diaper, to picking out
appropriate clothing, etc., etc.

You had a cruel and sadistic doctor to
make you wait 2 extra weeks.

wow.. that sucks... I really hope he come
soon i hate being in any sort of pain (i
know that's bad for when I do have him
lol)
My friends went into labor on the 16th and
they wern't going to do anything for her
until Jan. 7th just because they wanted
her to go on her own (she finally had
River on the 26th).. I would kill my
doctor for doing that to me.
Every day from 28 week? wow that had to
suck...

It's not bad, it's honest, and it's
reality. Everyone hates pain, just some
people try to deny it.

Every pregnancy is different, so it could
happen soon, or like others said, it could
still take weeks. Either way it will be
soon ^^. The waiting sucks I know, i'm 13
weeks along and I feel like i've been
pregnant for 13 years lol. Good luck =)

The parts I put in bold are what made me
think you should tell your mother, because
they made ME worry about you:

I am not sure any of that is "normal".
You should tell your mother because:
1) You are suffering and maybe there is
something that can be done to relieve the
pain.
2) Pain is (not always but mostly) an
indication that something is wrong.
3) Teens give birth prematurely more often
than women over 20, and you may be in real
labor or something else is going on that
needs attention.
Is the baby moving everyday?

Well, I'm going home tomorrow afternoon so
i'll talk to her then...
I hope there is something for the pain
I also hope nothing is wrong.. I will
deff. talk to mom tomorrow
I knew about teens giving birth prematur
more often that women over 20..
Yes, he moves every day..like now lol

I agree with you that there's nothing to
worry about. You could phone your OB and
tell them about it. Time the pains, too,
to rule out labor.
From experience...call your OB before your
tell your mom, lol. My mom would totally
freak out when I was pregnant, about the
slightest things. If I had a back ache she
insisted I was going into labor. =)

lol.. I would call my OB but I don't have
his number ('cuz i'm normally always with
my mom) plus he's in florida until the
2nd.
It would suck to go into labor 'cuz i'm
30-40 mins away from home and the hospital
where he's gonna be born (i'm at my
grandmother and papa's house)
