Several years ago (8 or so) I had polyps removed from one of my sinuses. The doctor said I might lose some of my sense of smell. In fact I have. However, over the last 6 months, I have been smelling "smoke" (like hickory BBQ or a campfire) much of the time. No one else smells it. Also, my nasal passages feel irritated as if I have in fact been out in the smoke.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

The sense of smell is a very delicate matter. We each have unique "sensory" devices inside the nose that match with smells in the outside world. Kind of like a key and a lock. Some peoples sense of smell are highly developed and others are muted. In other words, perhaps you are really smelling these objects which others cannot.

Do the smells bother you?

Have you ever tested your sense of smell?

Ever heard of aromatherapy?
