Q: Swollen Lower Lip

I'm having problems with my lower lip becoming swollen during the winter months. I don't notice this any other time of the year - I live in the midwest. The lower lip swells up and appears more red in color. My lip actually has a burning sensation. It doesn't actually blister but I can definitely feel a raised area on my lower lip. I have tried buying all new lip balms thinking they may be old...no help. Applying lip balm relieves some of the burning but never eliminates it. Haven't gone to the doctor yet but maybe I should. Can this be happening all because of the cold or perhaps I am missing something. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Do you get the most swollen lips in the morning?
Is your lower lip itchy?
Are you experiencing peeling?
Are you prone to allergies?

Thanks for replying. My lower lip is swollen at all times during the day although it seems to come and go. It is definitely worse if I lick my lips which can sometimes be hard not to do. I do feel a burning/tingling sensation but have not experienced any peeling or actual blisters. I don't have any allergies that I know of...unless an allergy is causing this lip swelling.

Our nose, lips and ears are particularly susceptible to windburn in winter months.
Windburn is actually a skin irritation, that looks like burn, because the exposed are on face is red and slightly swollen.
Acctually, the wind causes the loss of the oil layer on skin and when the skin dries out excessively, causing an irritation that looks and feels like a real burn.

Do you feel better?

Is the swelling of the lower lip very prominent?
Do you still have it?
Have you noticed some swelling around other parts of your body, like eyelids and genitals?
Was this preceded with some meds usage or some infection?

swollen lower lip
Two nights ago after eating dinner, I laid down and took a nap in front of the fireplace, when I woke up my lower lip felt feverish and was swollen about twice the size. It now has a hard spot in the middle and it hurts. It has a burning feeling.I took some motrin and the swelling went down, but in the morning it comes back. I also have some irritation in my left eye. There has been sickness in my household for the last two weeks, ... but I haven't gotten sick myself. Can you help me ?

Itchy ,swollen lips
I've had these problems for a couple years now and have been to an allergist and dermatologist. They can give you a prescription for this and I use it everyday and it has not come back. It's called peri-oral dermatitis and it can be pretty uncomfortable. I suggest seeing one of the above specialists who will be able to diagnose the problem correctly. It was the best thing I did
