Hi everyone.. A 4 year old little boy at my sons daycare just recently started having seizures...It has been about 3 weeks now.He has progressively had more and more each day. He is taking medication for them but is still having 5-15 per day at daycare. I am very worried about him and wonder if this is epilepsy or something else....He has been healthy otherwise up until this point anyone have any similar experiences?

What Could It Be?
Hi I noticed you live in florida. I live in ga. Near jax. The reason I say this is because I just heard the local news talk about a meningitis outbbrake in jax. That could cause sezures. If not that then there could be lots of other reasons for this. Only a doctor and testing will say for sure. I have epilepsy and have been around it all my life. It runs in my dads side of my family very heavily. Also I have known many people with it. I have never heard of it starting so suddenly on anyone, much less a 4yr old. I'm not saying this is the case, but I have heard of severe child abuse cases can cause sezures .Due to the great amount of stress involved. There is so many possibilities! Sad just pray they find the cause soon and get the right meds for him. Having that many in one day is very scarry for a child! Please let us know how he does. God bless you for bringing it to our attention so as many people can be praying for him! I know I will!

That's a new one on me Surprised i've heard of a persons brain getting smallar or shrinking. Because that is whst is happening to my husband. He has a condition called izingmenger(not sure if that is the correct spelling) anyway-basicly he is not getting enough oxegen to his brain. So parts of it is dying. He needed a heart and lungs transplant, but he is to high of a risk. He would die on the table. They don't even know how he has survived past his early childhood. The most on record died at age 3yrs. He is a living ginny-pig for some resurchers and doctors. But god isn't done with him yet, so until then they can't have him. Sorry, got off the subject . The point I was trying to make is he has never had szs. They say he has had a series of mini strokes. Which in a way are similar. It's deep in the brain, and most times not detected. I had (in laymans terms) a lupus stroke. Also deep in the brain. But my outer symtoms were like any other stroke, but when tested doesnt show as a stroke. Only a doctor knowegable about how lupus works can spot it. There are so many aspects to the brain that it takes a good doctor who knows what to and how to look for things. In order to rule out the usual. Just like god has his hands on my husband he has his hands on this child.

Hello, i'm always sad to hear about kids with sz's. You might check with your family back ground to see what sz history is there. The doctors should be asking all about family history, if they are not, i'd ask why? If they rule out ep , the next step to me would be his enviroment. Example- what has he been around recently, insects-chemicals-......? Look at every thing-even if it seems silly. If he hasn't been sick, then you can rule out meds. I pray you find the answer soon! God bless Smile

My friends 4 years old son just started having sz's 3 weeks ago. So far the meds aren't having much affect. Never sick before. If you could keep the post updated it would be great. Any info I can share with her that may lead to a degree of control would be a great help. My heatfeld wishes to all in this situation.

My healthy boy started having seizures
hello. im new to this but wanted to add.
my son was diagnosed with E in oct 2008... since then my life has been a rollercoaster!
He has Grand mal Tonic Clonic seizures and myoclonic absences.
hes on Epilim for seizures and clobazam for absences (im from UK)
1 day he was fine.. next he had a seizure...
Im hoping and praying he will outgrow them coz hes always been so healthy!
Justb as his meds seem to work were back to square 1.. at the mo hes been at school 2 days in 2 wks.. hes just so bad to the extent that he just drops to the floor!
Im hoping to hear from doctor 2day coz i want something sorted TODAY, he really needs his meds changed.. i heard that sumtimes a child can become "immune" to medications, this is rather scary but i really cant go on anymore this is getting me so depressed... i just look at my little boy and break down in tears.
If anyone knows any more info 4 me plz let me no... just keep searching for answers!
