I am going through the same thing, although tonight is the first time I have noticed a lot of blood and mucus and pain in my rectum. I am 22 female, always had an easily upset stomach with sharp pains and a lot of wind...(sorry for the details) my stools fluctuate daily from being soft to liquid in state. After feeling like I actually have something blocking me when I'm trying to go, I decided to go to the doctor. She seemed to be alarmed by the description of my symptoms (this was before the blood and mucus btw) and she said she felt a lump inside my rectum. I spent weeks worrying about cancer, when my appointment finally came around and the bowel/colon specialist said that the lump was in fact my cervix?! and it's quite common in young people for it to protrude like that.
Aside from this, she said because of my symptoms I should have the colonoscopy anyway, so I should be having it in a few weeks. I'm really thankful to be having it done now seeing as the blood in the mucus has started today.
It is worth mentioning that this has been an anxiety filled weekend, and things like ulerative colitis can be triggered by this.
All in all, I just wanted to support the others going through similar things...I always expect the worst, but after hearing your experiences, I don't feel so alone.
Above all, please no one put off going for the relevant tests, and pushing your doctor to send you for them.

recurrent C-DIFF??
I have had the same symptoms!!! I am 7 months pregnant & this started 2 months ago..I was very constipated with hard round stool, I was passing mucus with stool & Blood mixed with some kind of tissue.. it looked like stomach lining or something! This would pass sometimes even without stool! I usually just had to sit on the toilet & it would just come out. I started having severe stomach cramping & went into the ER where I tested positive for C-DIFF! They put me on Flagyl & I was admitted for 4 days... When symptoms cleared up & stool tested Neg. they sent me home with 2 weeks worth of meds. My symptoms came back about 2 weeks after I finished antibiotics but this time it was almost worse than the first time. I went back into the hospital & this time tested neg twice before I tested positive for Cdiff. My Dr. thought there could be something else going on & was wanting to do a colonoscopy BUT I'm pregnant & that can be somewhat risky to baby.. They admitted for a whole 9 days! They put me on Flagyl & Vancomycin hoping to just get rid of it..Symptoms went away but it has been a week & a half since I finished my month worth of antibiotics & SYMPTOMS ARE BACK!! This time i'm not in so much pain. Blood/mucus with stool & mild cramping...BUT I know its just a matter of time until the pain starts again.. I just want to know whats happening to me & if it's serious or not.. I've thought of everything possible from colon cancer, IBS/Chrones, Ulcerative colitis etc. blahhhh I hope you all get the answers to your questions!

I have had all the same symptoms as listed. Bloody diarrhea with mucus in it. I go probably 5 times a day and this has been going on for just over a week. I've also had some lower back pain and very, very mild abdominal cramps, but I have equated the last two symptoms to my period (which started about 3 days into all of this...double whammy of fun my body is going through!)

I'm a 23 year old female and I don't have health insurance. I told myself if it goes on for 2 weeks, I'll go to the ER. I just can't afford to have hundreds of tests and find it was just a virus that will run its course.

1 inch polyp
My sister recently had a colonoscopy. The doctor found a 1 inch polyp. He didn't remove it, but he did biopsy it and tattooed it. I am so scared. What are her chances of having cancer?

I was there, but he did tell her that she would not need a bag. Can doctors tell that a polyp is cancerous by looking at it?

Hello. I am been reading all these posts and I have been experiencing VERY similar symptoms. I am a 25 year old female, who is pretty healthy overall. For the last few weeks to a month ago I had diahrea off and on. Then it became worse, and noticed darker blood and mucous in my stools. As time went on, up until a week ago I was still having these symptoms, plus very bad low abdominal pain. I then went straight to a doctor and had him examine me. His first diagnosis was phsydomembranous colitis (basically a infection in colon). Doctor said it was probably from an antiobiotic I took back in December of 2010, which could be possible. Doctor put me on pills to help, then I did a stool sample. Just found out the stool sample showed nothing, which I was surprised about. Now what do I do? Any suggestions? Go to GI doctor probably. I just want to know whats going on and hope it is not a bad situation....but the worst, I hope it is not cancer.

My father (now passed) and sisters all have stomach issues. One was tested negative for Celiacs. I have a slew of symptoms.. including the mucous and blood in my stool.. But I was wondering if anyone is also battling any yeast problems as well? I have a never ending yeast infection. My immune system seems to be shot. I am also vitamin B12 deficient.. constantly bloated.. and thus far, answerless.

Hi I am yeast intolerant and battled with yeast infections for years - vaginal thrush being the most irritating, stomach bloating etc. etc. I take Pau d'Arco - check on the net is made from the bark of a tree. Can be taken in capsule form (how I take it) and also as a tea. Cleared up the yeast within a couple of months and is a great immune system booster - haven't had a proper cold since I started and if I get a sniffle I just take an extra capsule and it fights it off. Hope this helps.

Hello all, I wanted to pass along a resource that helped me tremendously called the Specific Carb Diet. Look for Elaine Gottschall's Book "Breaking the Vicuous Cycle". It's a long road to recovery, but it works if you stick with it. Hope this helps.

Wow..I am going through the same stuff. I am a 57 year old female..I got the flu and then it turned into bronchotis, they gave me awful antibiotics, on the 3rd day Istarted with horrible cramps and diahrrea. I stopped the anibiotics, but the cramping and diahrrea continued..Then I started finding blood and mucus in my stool..It has been a week since I am off the meds and just went to the bathroom , just a tiny, tiny poop and still red blood in the stool and when I wipe myself it is mucus and blood...I am freaking out..My husband just took a small sample to the lab to look for bacteria, etc. I will have to have a colonoscopy, but cannot do it till my colon calms down...I am scared!! Colon Cancer???

Please Help.. Mucus and blood in stool.
Hi. I am 26 years old and just started having these same issues. It started Monday, 4/11/2011 with sharp stomach pains and bloody stool. Tuesday my sister said it was probably food poisoning and to stop eating.. I stopped eating which stopped the pain and diarrhea, but on Wednesday I was still showing blood, but now stool.. went to ER that day cause I got really scared. All tests show negative, even the cat scan.. I finally had more stool today being 4/15/2011.. I took some stool samples (with blood and mucus) to the lab and am awaiting their response.. Since I started eating again, to give them stool samples, My diarrhea has started up again with lots of red blood and mucus.. I have had really bad IBS (constipated kind) for the past 4 years.. I'm really tired of all my tests showing negative.. I hope everyone who has had similar issues have gotten this treated.. The cat scan showed up negative for diverticulitis and colitis.. Now just awaiting stool tests..

Does anybody have feedback on what their issue ended up being? Please help. I am tired of hearing the tests came out negative. I have to take pictures to show my doc what is happening. He didn't believe me and said it was probably a bursted hemorrhoid.. I can't wait to show him the pictures I took today.. You can clearly see it's blood in my stool.

27 -Blood and mucus in stool
Hi, 27 Year old Male. Have had alot of similar symptoms to people on here.
Started around 3 weeks ago, I had a bowel movement, ( quite a big one) and the noticed streaksof bllod on thr toilet paper. This carried on for around 4-5 days, and put this down to large bm and decided it must be a cut around that area.
A few days later I started getting around 3 bm a day, starting off very loose, then returning to normal, but with mucus and blood present on wiping, and around stool!!! left it for a few days before going to the docs. Terrified myself with possibilities, so made an appointment, and doc suggested anal fissure or haemorroids!! I was happy with this until a day later when I passed what looked like a blood clot!! This then followed the next 2 days, still mucus, and the constant feeling i need to have a bm, but most times its just wind.

Went back to the G.P who then said I need to have a colonoscopy. The prospect of this is worrying in itself, let alone the things going through my mind of what it could be.

The last couple of days have been okay, symptoms eased up, 1 bm a day, until today where I found a mucus blood clot looking thing in the toilet!!!!

Very stressed at the moment, alot of things going on before this started too, but surely stress could not cause all these symptoms?

Will be good to speak to someone who is going through similar things.

I had these problems and it was E-COLI
I had a lot of these problems.. Mucusy, bloody diarrhea.. Stomach pain that was very painful, but only lasted 2 days.. I had e-Coli... The only way to test it is through a stool test. Most people get rid of e-Coli in like a week without medical help.. I apparently had it for around a month or so. It started with watery diarrhea for almost 2 weeks, but I didn't think anything of it.. Then after a couple weeks I started getting really bad pain in my stomach and that's when the blood started. Wasn't sure it was blood at first, looked like mashed up watermelon.. But after a couple days it was straight dark red blood. Then the mucus started.. It was a really scary and painful time. I hope this helps others. Definitely try stool tests. No other way to detect e-Coli.. Good luck!

I had and now have again the same problem. Had a colonoscopy which showed inflammation. My doctor gave me suppositories which worked, but the bleeding and mucus would come back as soon as I stopped the suppositories. Since he never said what is causing the inflammation I looked up foods that help decrease inflammation such as broccoli and asparagus. the thing is you need to eat asparagus every day and cut out oil. really pay attention to what you eat and if your bleeding and mucus gets worse or better. Not sure why after a few years my bleeding and mucus came back, but I am back on a clean diet and asparagus.

Hey forum. I'm 32 and had pristine health for many, many years until the last four, roughly. I have bright blood and mucus in my stools. It was very small at first and then began to recur more and more often. Sometimes it feels like I really need to go and there is nothing but the white or slightly tan mucus. The blood didn't start until about eight months after the mucus started. I have had several different medications: seraquil, zoloft, jarrow's bone up (glucosomine, msm, vitamin k, e, c, etc.), DollarG Sleep Aid, and also an anti inflammatory (aleve?). I had cooked in reseraunts for four years and had way too much meat and soda. I am quite sure that is at least a part of the problem. You only require about two ounces of protein a day. Americans consume much more than that on average. I have the 9 to 5 type job too and am poor so that doesn't help my struggles keeping my diet right. I feel bad for all of you and know what you are going through. I am going to a gastrointerologist soon and am hoping that I don't have IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) or a intestinal blockage or worse (colon cancer). I have a wonderful little family whom I will try anything to survive for. I have been drinking a glass of watger with a clove of garlic in the mornings, taking a table spoon of olive oil at night. I drink prune juice (which by the way is not recommended if you have Chron's disease or Ulcerative Colitis). I try to eat more rice (mainly long brown and jasmine blended together). I stopped soymilk recently but may continue it if my gastrointerologist insists it is ok. I fear that any type of bean may aid constipation. I will come back here and post routinely in the hope that I can help you guys. Nothing sucks like not knowing what is wrong with you, and the fear of leaving your loved ones behind in an already very tough world.

same problem...
I'm 18 and I have been having little blood in my stool and sometimes I find little mucous. As far as I know there is no family history of stomach cancer or crohn's disease, but I learned my grandma has constipation problems. I went to the doctor and they said they think it's just blood vessles close to the surface that get irritated when I have to push hard. They put me on a stool softener and I have been pretty good at taking it, but if I forget one day then I find I don't go at all that day and when I do go again there is blood. Should I be worried/nervous? Because I am...any help?

I've just read every post and it sounds like you all are experiencing your first encounter with crohns/colitis. Your large intestine has lost it's rhythm and waste isn't moving along. It's fermenting inside you giving you terrible gas. When it finally start along its way your gut groans like someone's wringing an animal balloon under a pillow. You have an ulceration somewhere along the way that has been raked raw and is bleeding. You feel an urge and just spatter. I've been on a maintenence drug called asacol generic name mesalamine, its old school but seems to work. Every couple of years I still have an "event", but I guess that"s as good as it gets. Go to a gastrointerologist, get a colonoscopy, (every three years now that your a player), lucky you! Why?,even the pros don't have the answers but they know how to treat the symptoms, there are worse things that can happen, this can be managed. This is what I know but everyone's different, go to the G.I. and find out, you gotta deal with it. I hope this helps some folks out there.
