for years now even in my own house i have had truouble falling asleep due to some paranoia that someone is in my house or going to come into my house to kidnap or hurt me and my family. I hear noises sometime that make me suspect people are there so i find my self out of my bed checking on things throughout the night. Im usually fine if someone else is in the room but if its just me it can take hours to fall asleep. I went to my bed at 11 last night but didnt fall sleep until 3. pleaseee. I havent had any traumatic experiences that would strike such a fear in me so i have no idea what is causing this issue.

any ideas??
thanks.

Have you consult a sleep specialist already?
Do you usually have strange and chronic worries about other certain events such as eating, leaving home?

yes actually
there are many things i worry about
whether my car is going to crash
etc.
all of these far out things and there is no way i control when they come.
the sleep one is most evident though.
i have not really told anyone about this..
eating.. i've never really had a worry there..

Do you watch scary movies? Do you live in a bad part of town that makes you think someone could come in your home?

Try to go to bed with happy thoughts. I talk to God when I am scared and try to think of happy things.

Are you trying to ignore or suppress such thoughts or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action?
Do you recognize that the intrusive thoughts thoughts you have are a product of your own mind, and are not based in reality?
Are you experiencing feelings of depression?

I understand
Hi Jen,
I understand about your fears. I live in a really safe place supposedly but a few weeks ago I heard a noise but did nothing. I woke up and the back door was wide open. So since then I have had the same fears as you. I have a 3 year old son and we have our rooms upstairs in my home. We had relatives over and sleeping in his room for a few weeks and I wanted to get him back in the habit of sleeping in his room. The night I had him sleep in there, I went into my bedroom and felt very uneasy and had nightmares all night. I feel better now with him in my big bed and the door locked. I always want the door locked behind me now. I also get so many fears like you - mostly now because of having a child and worrying about him like crazy. Do you remember having anything like this, excessive worrying when you were a kid? The reason I ask is because when I was little my parents were very violent and abusive with each other. There was NO stability. I honestly feared I'd wake up with a parent lying there dead. This was due to their extreme violence with each other. one time I was 7 years old and I was in my bed crying, so afraid of losing them. My dad came in and heard me and told me he wasn't going anywhere, etc. But such instability, violence and chaos can cause this - and stay with you for a long time unless you try to face it I guess. Try not to let this control you. Try to breath, maybe meditate or pray. It really helped me in the past to pray for God to help. I think if you allow these fears to consume you it will only get worse - somehow you need to make it stop or lessen how much you worry. I hope you can get help for this. Maybe you could take something to help you relax for a while when going to sleep. Take care ok!
