Hi
Just wondering if anyone is on Rabeprazole for GERD?

I was diagnosed with H Pylori and just came off the triple therapy and am on 20mg Rabeprazole twice daily. I was on 150mg Ranitidine twice daily before for about 2 weeks, but that made me feel quite ill, so my doc switched me over to Rabeprazole.

Although I feel a bit better now after a week of switching over to Rabeprazole, I'm still feeling a bit ill. On Rantidine, I had headaches, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, fatigue and tiredness. After switching to Rabeprazole now the nausea, headaches and insomnia are gone, but I still feel fatigue and tired. I have also developed a bit of a cough and chest pain. My neck is also a bit tender feeling around the adam's apple area (can't help but think it might be a thyroid thing). The cough is very sparse, but then the chest pain is what really bothers me. It's sore when I push into my sternum or just to either side of my sternum on the rib cage. It also is sore when I get into any position that compresses my ribs, or if I take a deep breath I can feel it when my rib cage is expanded.

My doc said it might be coincidental that I developed a viral respiratory infection at the same time as starting the meds. I was reading around a few websites though that says that both Ranitidine and Rabeprazole both cause the types of symptoms that I am having, however they are rare.

Also, a note - I'm pretty sure my cough/sore throat are not due to acid reflux, because the meds are controlling the acid quite well. Besides, I never had these types of coughs and sore throat before taking these meds, so why would meds that are supposed to help with acid make me feel symptoms associated with GERD?

Anyway, just wondering about the side effects and how rare they really are...
Anyone care to share any experiences they've had with any of these two meds?

h pylori
i have the exact same symptoms as you for 10 years and i have never been on any meds, doc's told me it is my tonsils and years later doc's gave me acid reflux meds that i never took because i know its not a cold, its not acid reflux i don't have any heartburn and i always get the sore throat and now i have a steady cough. i'm just looking into treating h pylori naturally and hope it goes away for good if that's what is causing this, sick and tired of being sick and tired.
