Q: Paternity Test After Abortion

Hi, Please please please can anyone tell me if there is any chance of undertaking paternity tests after having an abortion. IF so what do I need to do? What is required from the father?

My ex-partner and I agreed to have an abortion together and now he does not beleive it was his. I am so hurt and angry that he is telling me now - especially after reading that a paternity test can be done before having a termination. THANKS

I'm not an expert here, but my basic biology knowledge would tell me no, you cannot perform a paternity test post-abortion, since there is nothing there to test.

I am sorry your ex is hurting you with this. Who know what his motivations are. Good thing he is an ex.

They can do DNA testing!

They also do this for rape victims, and abuse cases. It will come at a big cost though.

Holy caca! That's amazing! Can you tell us how they do it? I would think that after an abortion there's nothing to test.

There is fetal tissue that can be tested, if you know how to go about finding what you need.

A genetic profile can easily be made from fetal remains.

But if the abortion happened some time ago then there won't be anything to test, will there? I mean, I can understand it being possible if the person knew they wanted DNA testing before they had the abortion because then the foetal tissue could be saved but what if someone decides 2 months down the line they want DNA testing? I think that's what the op means.

?
Miss Angry, I can understand how you must feel like your ex has slapped you in the face by claiming that he didn't get you pregnant and that you'd be hurt by his insensitivity. What a jerk.
But WHY is proving it now that the pregnancy has been terminated so important to you? What do you expect will be achieved by proving this? If he's not with you anymore and you've both cut your ties to each other, maybe you should let it go?
You're giving him power to have a negative impact on your life still and you deserve to let go of what happened in the past- no one can change it anyway, learn from any mistakes you might have made in this relationship, and let it go so you can now move forward in your life.
You know what the truth is even if he's too big of a whimp to admit it himself.

Take care
